Product Description Life is a rough ride for awkward, friendless, 12-year-old Moondance (Panabaker). But when a Pinto pony named Checkers leaps into her life, Moondance pursues a dream she never knew she had. Convinced that Checkers has champion potential, she enters him in the Bow Valley Classic, and in the process learns that only perseverance lands you in the winner's circle. Directed by Michael Damian, and featuring an irresistible soundtrack, Moondance Alexander is an uplifting story the whole family will enjoy. .com A sweet family drama about a girl and her misunderstood horse, Moondance Alexander focuses on a teenager who is longing to fit into a world where she is considered an oddball. Though Moondance (Kay Panabaker) is cute as a button, she's saddled with an unpopular name and that, apparently, is enough to make other 15-year-old girls dislike her. But when the spunky kid finds a mischievous runaway pinto, her life changes for the better. The horse's owner is played by a gravely voiced Don Johnson, who allows Moondance to work at his stable. In return, he will also train her to ride Checkers, who is her new best friend. Moondance is convinced that Checkers is a champion jumper in the making that just needs someone to believe in him. She believes. And by the end of the movie, the parable won't be lost on anyone that in bringing out the best in Checkers, Moondance also discovers her own worth. Directed by soap opera star Michael Damian, the film has a warm, but cheesy made-for-TV vibe. The movie is not without charm. But there are virtually no surprises here, and the viewer easily guesses what will happen way before it actually does. Panabaker, Johnson and Lori Loughlin (as Moondance's mom) are all wonderful in their roles. But figure skater Sasha Cohen is sorely miscast as Moondance's high-school nemesis. --Jae-Ha Kim

Good Family Film
Predictable-yes... but what makes this movie work is the fine acting from Kay Panabaker and good supporting acting from Lori Laughlin (pre-scandal). Great to see Don Johnson again even if his character is pretty cookie cutter stuff. Add to that the beautiful pinto horse "Checkers" (played by three different horses) and a you have a good popcorn family film in the tradition of the Heartland TV series.

Not a bad movie for a rainy afternoon
“Moondance Alexander” was a fun little flight of fancy – of course you can win a jumping championship after only a couple of months of practice. It had good production values, and good camera work. The acting was not great, but it was good – Don Johnson usually carries his weight, and our little heroine, Miss Panabaker, did a good job. And it also had a decent, if formulaic and predictable storyline. And Hollywood did not let us down by forgetting some of its predictable political correctness. I am trying to remember back to when Hollywood first started building stories around super wise children and the fumbling adults who are so in need of the child’s wisdom and guidance. I can’t remember when it started, but it has been around for a long time.

Outstanding family movie !
What is not to like about this movie ? Great cast, beautiful scenery, lots of horse scenes. Young girl finds hope and self-confidence after losing her father and being treated unkindly by school peers. Character played by Don Johnson moves past a prior tragedy while a horse trainer. Perfect for family movie viewing. One I hope to watch again.

Pretty good
A good "feel-good" movie. I liked seeing some of the mistakes that the girl made when she first tried to ride the horse, though she's lucky she didn't get herself killed. I have no doubt that there are plenty of Pintos and other breeds that can jump as well as the Thoroughbreds can. I'm not entirely certain that winning that contest was the greatest self-esteem booster because you're setting yourself up for a huge disappointment when you do lose, but she did prove her point. The writers did go overboard with the antagonist. I went through some stuff similar at that age, but I don't ever remember the other girl(s) being that bad. It would have been more believable if they'd toned down the comments, or left them out all together and just had the antagonist ignore the MC. Still, a decent movie for family entertainment.

Shirley Temple- type Heroine Wins the Race and Hearts.
A sweet little horse-and-it's-girl story. Throw in the grumpy but charismatic trainer and a few mean-girls and you have the classic story with a nice ending for all.

A Pinto Named After Nixon's Dog
"Saddle Club" meets "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen" and "Bratz", as the prettiest friendless teenage girl in cinema history goes up against her "Queen Bee" nemesis in a local equestrian competition. Throw in a little "Pollyanna" here for good measure as the friendless girl manages to inspire the adults in her town to lead better lives.Kay Panabaker plays the friendless girl (Moondance Alexander), and Kay is so pretty she makes figure skater turned aspiring actress Sasha Cohen look rather plain by comparison. And Kay is a polished enough actress with enough effortless charm to almost make this film work. Unfortunately she is saddled (pun intended) with one of the worst written scripts you are likely to ever encounter. The best scenes are those where Panabaker is alone on the screen and the worst are those involving her teenage rivals-the dialog given to these inexperienced cast members is almost surreal in its staggering lameness. The film is at least one back-story too many as there just isn't time to adequately cover Moondance coping with her father's death, reconciling her mother's new romantic interest, getting flirty with the son of her mother's boyfriend, saving stable owner Donte (Don Johnson) from a wasted life of alcohol abuse, turning her horse Checkers into a competitive jumper, and giving Roscoe P. Coltraine (James Best) a few moments of mild comic relief."Moondance Alexander's" target audience of preteen girls and Sasha Cohen fans wasn't enough for it to get a widespread theatrical release but it is available as a direct-to-DVD product. There is nothing original or exciting here but it is a pleasant enough family film. And the dare to be different theme is handled quite nicely. Then again, what do I know? I'm only a child.

French listed in languages. Is not in French
Description said that French is amongst the languages. This movie is not dubbed in French at all, only subtitled. That should be corrected in the description, as I ordered this movie both for me (who obviously speak English) but for my parents (who only speak French). Sellers/Amazon should be careful in the description.Still a good movie that I'll keep in my collection. Just a shame that I won't be able to share it with my parents.

Teen girls and their love of horses
What a great movie with some faces from 80's TV shows. Some laughter, some awkward teenage moments and an enjoyable story to boot! Just a great movie to sit around as a family and watch. Moondance is that quirky teen girl that is just trying to find her place in life. Not fitting in at school, not cool enough to hang with the trend-setters, not rich enough to own the right clothes & not smart enough to be a geek. Her random meeting with a horse changes her life and connects her to people that really need her zest for life and her ability to relate with those pushed to the side and ignored. Through in some romance and dealing with the emotions of her single mom dating another man and you've got stroy worth watching.

Seulement sous-titré en français
Mauvaise description du vendeur ou promoteur, avait acheté pour audio ou doublage en français, qui était dans la description. Dommage, car j'ai bien aimé le film doublé en français.

Good family values.
Sometimes it is difficult to find copies of good family movies in a store -- just found the Amazon site and checked out the family type movies and was really impressed with all of our choices. Was just very impressed with how easy it was to order and delivery was quite good.
