Fauna MarinDino X 500ml

I bought this product to remove a dinoflagellate problem in my marine tank. I went to the manufacturers website and followed all their advice - a black out period, a period of treatment with Red X, and siphoning out of all the dinoflagellate slime I could see in the tank. I followed the Dino X dosage to the letter. Both my tangs and my watchman goby immediately began to behave strangely and passed away within two days of application. I see that Fauna Marin has responded to a similar complaint on the REEF2REEF forum. They say the product does not affect fish or invertebrates directly - death is caused by the dinoflagellates suddenly dying and releasing toxins. That may be true, but it still means the product should not be used in a tank containing animals, and that should be prominent in the instructions. If you are planning to use this in your tank I strongly recommend removing all the animals (including inverts and corals) to a quarantine tank.
