Interesting and atmospheric look at a colorful place
I enjoyed this focused history book. I really got a new feel for a place that I thought I already knew. The book spent a little too much time talking about outlaws that weren't really connected to the Acre, but I can't blame the author for that. I'm sure if they weren't included readers begging for them.

I walked those streets later as a young boy ! Report from a project kid
I an 72 years old and have lived in Fort Worth all my life. I learned so much about the history in my town that I knew very little about. My grandparents had walk-up hotels in that area in the 1940's / 1970's , it was a wild place during these times , I had heard about Hell's Half Acre, "back in the old days" , but I want you to know , HHA may have been officially closed , but unofficially it was alive and well! As a very young boy I walked those streets, only the names have been changed to protect the " innocent". This is a must read for those who enjoy Fort worth/ Texas history.

A great and informative read about early Texas
A great and informative read about early Texas . There were several different historic locals in American west , and this is a good read about one of them , and the famous people who came and went thru it !

Good reading
It was a second hand book I ordered. And the price was right and the book was in very good shape. I was pleased with it. Parts of the book are very interesting, parts are not. I do like the maps and photos in it. It's a little hard to keep the reading going, the subject matter skips and goes off on other stories aways from Ft. Worth. But for the price I'm glad I bought it.

Great history book to have!
If you're interested in the history of the old west and Ft Worth, Texas this is the book to have and read. Lots of good, interesting info and it has some maps so when you walk in current downtown Ft Worth, you can see where history was made. It is apparent that the author did a lot of research and didn't write the book based on stories from others.
