Used on stuck tri-axle dump truck--very impressed
I know there is a lot of chatter about working load limit vs. failure rating. I used one of these and a large excavator to pull a tri-axle dump truck out of the mud. The truck was loaded with asphalt and couldn't be dumped to make it light. The truck was stuck to its axles (rear) with front tires about 4" deep (rear end was the problem). The first cable we used broke, then used a 7/8" and pulled it right out. Truck was easily over 20 tons loaded and the mud made it effectively heavier. I don't know about the 18-ton claim, but mine didn't break and I still use it to pull down trees. Keep them greased and they should treat you right. For those of you wondering--it takes substantially less than 20 tons of force to roll a 20-ton truck even when stuck in the mud (I can push a stalled car, but I sure couldn't lift one). Unless you're planning on hoisting (not designed for it), you can probably handle any typical non-commercial recovery with this. I've bought several that I mostly use in groups to pull down trees (mechanical advantage from multiple pullies). Not cheap, but a good buy and great for the money.

Works good but question the load rating
This is a great snatch block. It's greaseable so the wheel moves nice and smooth (after you spin it around for a couple of time during first use). There are 2 pins at the top, one is fixed and the other removable. Removing the one pin lets the attachment point, similar to a D-ring, open so you can attach it directly to a tree strap and a small bar pulls back so you can lay your winch line onto the pulley.I've only had it a month and have used it once. It worked great with synthetic line. Two things to be aware of:1. It's heavy! When I took the slack out of my winch line the snatch block was still pulling downward. I to put some load on the winch to get the line to pull tight and for the snatch block to come up into the horizontal plane with the line and tree strap. It's heavy!2. Every description I read about this snatch block on Amazon and other sites has it listed with a 36k lbs rating. Cast into the housing is "6 Ton WLL". I compared this one to Warn's which looks identical in pictures except color and it seems to have the same WLL cast in at the same spot. I can't image I'll exceed 12k lbs with my Jeep, so not an issue for me.

initial review-looks like a beast cant wait to test it out..ill be back
I'm happy so far, shipped quick looks solid and feels solid after some lock tight on the hard wear and a snug torqueing. replaced the cotter pin with a retiner and pumped it full of grease and broke it in with some rope spins nice and smooth and even fit and smoothly operated my 1 in rope. this will easily accommodate ropes and cables up to 1 in total diameter and will swallow my 3/8 winch cable with room to spare. one note is that its listed for 36k this clearly is a typo as the 6 ton stamp clearly states 12k max as with anything the max is under rated for safety but eitherway its more then I need to pull the occasional tree car or object I ordered it for. its large and heavy so rigging will take some patience until enough tension is on the line for horizontal pulls vertical should prove effortless . another thing I noticed when I put the first scratch in the paint is it is indeed red under the black so I'm guessing its the exact same as the warn copy for double the price, "which is painted red"

Quality materials - heavy duty product
Appears to be made from quality materials - and heavy. Well made - works like it should. Great purchase.

works as far as I can tell
Have not broken one yet, but can't give it 5 starts because it feels stupidly heavy. Are these made of lead? My point is there are many materials with higher strength to weight ratios than this, this is unneccesarily, ridiculously heavy. It says it is rated for 36K lbs is breaking strength not working load! I have a light tiny snatch block that is a fraction of the cost that has a 22K breaking strength. So, to get a an additional 15K of breaking strength you pay 4 times as much and it's 4 times as heavy, does not make sense

Made in China, But a very hefty block.
Made in China, but it works, workmanship and finish are somewhat rough.

Great product.
Durable, reliable, tough blocks . We use these blocks daily for hoisting seafood and hold up for years.

looks good
I can't rate durability as I just got it, but it appears well made. It's pretty heavy, but that is not a problem. I'll be using it with a cable. The set up to pull is simple enough. I'm satisfied as I can be without actually using it.

Still it is pretty beefy so I will give it go
I was sceptical about the weight limit on this block before I ordered it and I was right. The picture shows the safe wll at 6 ton which is only 24000 lbs, a little on the small side for a 16000 lbs winch. Still it is pretty beefy so I will give it go.

sturdy..
Huge! sturdy.......... red d-ring/shackle needs to be bigger........... if you are going to have such a rating, you will need to use a bigger strap = larger shackle! Can't replace with a standard shackle as the standard shackle bolt mount is turned 90 degrees.......
