Good resource about an touchy topic
Very good book.Accessible and practical. Could have used a little more rigorous research, but value added

Overall lacking in rigor, methods, and reporting
Although touted as a research study of more than 3200 participants, only 401 participants actually finished the survey (12.5%). This VERY low response rate is never even addressed as a limitation. When so few participants from the larger sample are represented, it likely biases the survey (i.e., individuals who are bullied may be more likely to respond, and thus, are overrepresented). This is likely the case here given that women and LGBT individuals were also much more highly represented in the survey than in the general population. Clearly, a low response rate and overrepresentation of bullied individuals would also bias any subsequent results, conclusions, and recommendations drawn from said survey. Instead of taking a step back to reflect on the validity and generalizability of the survey of academia (much less community colleges and the broader business world), the author proceeded to draw conclusions, make recommendations, and formulate costs of bullying (p. 73-76).Significant conceptual flaws are also widespread throughout the text. The primary issue being that although the author cited well-respected researchers from the workplace bullying field (whose names were even misspelled multiple times) in the book's definition of bullying (which states that to be considered bullying, it must last for 6 months or more, p. 5), the survey questions asked about behaviors that occurred within the last 18 months. Further, 20% of the individuals who were counted as "being bullied" had only experienced such acts for an academic term or less (p. 56), which is less than 6 months. Thus, it seems that the author might have lost sight of what constitutes "bullying," according to the book's own definition as well as the well-accepted empirical definition.I am simply a researcher with knowledge and experience in this field, and I am concerned that individuals may use this text as a primary workplace bullying resource not knowing its significant inaccuracies. Instead of coining unnecessary, ambiguously defined, new/catchy terms (e.g., "bullrassment", p. 22), it seems that additional peer-review and/or empirical literature review could have been beneficial prior to publication...

I would suggest presenting this as a 15-20 page journal ...
I would suggest presenting this as a 15-20 page journal article rather than a book. Generally, the academic reader does not want or need to see a separate graph on a separate page for each demographic element of the sample. That information would be more efficiently displayed in one small chart.

Five Stars
A must read for anyone.

Excellent Topic, Disappointing Follow Through
As a current PhD student, I cannot recommend this manuscript to others in good faith.Primarily, this book seems to be published by the author's own consulting company, so there is little indication that it went through the rigorous peer review expected of an academic publication. Secondly, there are issues with citations throughout the book that make it difficult to use as a reliable reference (sources not included in the reference list, authors' names misspelled, and incorrect in-text citations). On the whole, it seems as though the goal was to crank out this research as fast as possible, rather than produce quality material to be used in the field. ***Students beware--your faculty may not consider this to be a credible source. The topic is significant and should be further considered; however, this book is not substantial enough to carry that burden.
