Review: What a great product! Simple installation and works great. - Great product! I installed this on my Suzuki DF 2.5 single cylinder, 4 cycle outboard motor so I could monitor the rpms and hours for the engine break-in protocol and later to track hours for routine maintenance intervals. I had done a lot of research and found that there are some other products out there that are difficult to install and/or inaccurate, but this Hardline product was a very simple and secure installation and is accurate. There was no adjustment required at all- I installed it and it worked. Now I can run my engine by rpm rather than guessing by half-throttle, quarter-throttle etc. and don't have to guess how many hours are on the engine for maintenance. And, the price is right. Highly recommend. In addition, Hardline advised when I asked that you can use regular 18 gauge wire of 10, 15 ft if you need to place the device further away from the engine you are monitoring. I plan to do this with my small outboard so I can monitor it more comfortably as I go through the engine break in procedure with progressive rpms on my new 2.5 hp outboard.
Review: Solid unit that appears to work. - So far, so good. I added this to a 37 ton wood splitter that has a crx 420 4 stroke motor on it. I mounted it on the plastic near the air filter, being careful not to drill into the air intake line. The RPMs were double what they should have been at idle but holding the button while in rpm mode fixed that to get to correct mode. I ran the engine for a bit to see the hour meter read 0.1. Seems good. Time will tell to see longevity. The first package I ordered only had the display unit. I returned that and got a package with display unit, sensor wire and zip tie. I cut down the sensor wire to suit my needs as the run was not very long.

**Q: Does this run on a battery?  If so is it replacable?  Do you lose your accumlated hours when the battery dies?**
A: https://www.hardlineproducts.com/ShowItem.cfm?itemid=267&catid=136It does run on a battery.  Manufacturer states the battery is good for 10 years and is non replaceable.  Memory is non-erasable.

**Q: Can I add more wire to extend the leads ?? Need about 12 ft. total length**
A: According to the manufacturer website, it comes with a 48” pickup wire. It also says that you can use a longer 18 or 20 gauge wire up to 14’.

**Q: Is there some sort of clamp to attach it to machines?**
A: Screws are included to attach it

**Q: Will this work on an 8 Cylinder engine?**
A: I’d assume so. It just needs to wrap around a plug wire to count.

Great product! Product was well packaged and appears to be ruggedly build for long term use. Installation was very simple on my Wen 2000 inverter generator and the fitment was great due to the small size of the display while still being plenty big enough to read easily. I was surprised to see that there were 2 resettable hour trackers which will make it nice to view total hours and time between maintenance.
