The Jewels of Lalique

So disappointed with the photos. Don't buy this book if you want good photos of Lalique's work - buy Imperishable Beauty instead. Some photos in this book are outstanding - crisp and large, showing excellent detail. Many of the others are slightly out of focus, poorly lit, with limited contrast and on very dark backgrounds. It's difficult to see the pieces in any understandable detail. For example a ring on pg 41 is printed at 2x2" but on a full page background roughly 10x10". It's all background, and it's not the only example of this treatment. Some of the smaller photos are frustratingly dark and unclear. The photos look like they have been taken from multiple sources of varying quality, and unfortunately it shows.

What a beautiful book. Full page, full color photos, with many of the pieces being shown larger than life. Original drawings of the same pieces are shown on a facing page. I wish that some of the photos of people and places had been reproduced larger, but the original old photos may have been very small to start with, and may not have blown up well bigger than they were originally printed. All in all an absolutely drool-worthy book.I ordered this book from Half Price Books from Texas, as Amazon did not have it. The book arrived very fast, and very well wrapped and boxed. The book was listed as used-good with dented corners and scuffed dust jacket. Wrong. It looked brand new. I would order from them again. And the book was half the price of the other sellers.

I saw the exhibit in person years ago and, at the time, I spent two hours pouring over this book before I went in to see the jewels in person. I've thought about the book ever since, and I'm so glad I bought it. It delights me now as much as it did then. It's the next best thing to being there, and such a collection will probably never be assembled again.

Item was better than described-dust cover in very good condition, no creased pages. spine in good condition. It was well packaged-padded and securely taped, properly addressed. It was promptly dispatched and arrived within 2 week time frame.

素晴らしい本です。Rene　Laliqeのジュエリー分野における、ある意味総決算的な本だと思います。海外での評価も高く、大学、博物館の評論、書籍リストにも収載されている程です。私にとって唯一の難点は、英語の本だという事位です。それとて辞書を片手に単語に当たりながらラリックの世界を読み解く楽しみなのかむしれません。
