Excellent
Squirrels can be clever and damaging, they ate into a plastic container were we store bird seed. This book helped me out smart them and not harm them. Very clever!

Somewhat Humorous, But Too Dry
I expected to enjoy Bill Adler's humorous treatise on defending bird feeders from "furry-tailed rats", based on snippets from the third edition of Outwitting Squirrels that were shared recently in a radio gardening program, so I bought it that same day for my Kindle. Unfortunately, I discovered that most of the funny parts of the book were read aloud on air by Bob Tanem, host of KSFO's "In the Garden", or shared by the author during that interview. The rest of the book is extremely dry, and mostly consists of a list of the commercially-available bird feeders, rated for features like ease of refilling, attractiveness, and of course, Squirrel-Proofing.The 101 Stratagems of the sub-title comprise a similar mix of sober seriousness and whimsical hilarity, with a few deliciously mean or technically treacherous options thrown in. Adler has obviously done his homework - and presumably has seen many more "squirrel-oopsies" than he describes in the text. He may have been reluctant to share yet another "squirrel skids off slick baffle and lands on his posterior four feet below feeder" scene. If that is the case, I think he missed the main reason those who are dream of outwitting squirrels might have bought the book. Sure, it helps to know which feeder works best to fend off the arboreal rodents. But we also want to see them defeated! If we can't see it in our own yards, we'll settle for reading about it. (Hint for the fourth edition?)

Cute cover
Ok so I have to start off by saying I have not read this book. I purchased it as a joke gift for my aunt & uncle for christmas. The cover alone had me hysterical because on Thanksgiving my aunt left my birthday cake out on the back porch to keep cold and a squirrel got at it. My cousin told her she couldn’t serve it like that (meaning throw it out) So instead she cut out the parts of the cake that were chewed or had paw prints!! When that cake was placed on the table for us to blow out the candles my family has never laughed so hard EVER. so this book was too perfect! My uncle can’t wait to read it

Looked like a dog had tried to open it
I think outwitting squirrels is a hopeless cause, but the book was enjoyable. When I ordered the book, I went online to track it. I noticed that tracking said it had been delivered on a particular day yet I had not received it. Then the next day I heard a faint tap at the door and, when I opened it, I found a wet, pink package with a hole chewed out of it. I opened it and found this book. I figured the book got wet when the letter carrier accidently dropped it during his rounds and the package stayed outside all night, thereby covering it with dew. My neighbor must have found it or even the letter carrier and they wanted to make a quick getaway before I opened the door. What got me, however, was the chewed hole in it. Looked like a dog had tried to open it. I do wonder how that dog knew the book was about a squirrel.

It's Exactly What it Looks Like
I got this as a gag Christmas present for my parents not expecting them to actually really enjoy the read. Both have leafed through this cute little book and my dad even has a few pages bookmarked and highlighted for future reference. The writing style is also very enjoyable and humorous making it a great read for everyone. 10/10 Would do it again!

Who knew there was so much to these creatures? Read portions to our grandchildren and now they give me reports about what the squirrels are achieving regularly. Truly helps to develop an appreciation for nature, develop scientific observation skills and just how to become a calm, benevolent person. ESSENTIAL FOR COPING WITH NEW STAY AT HOME EDUCATORS AND STUDENTS!!! And just a fun book.
