Iwatani Takoyaki Grill Pan

We used this for a Japanese-themed dinner and it made perfect takoyaki balls - seriously took me right back to eating them in Yokosuka 20 years ago. Takes quite a bit of practice to get takoyaki that turned out well, but it’s not bad now. Just make sure that you have access to a gas stove with the cross grate to place it on.

Great nonstick finish, cleans up easily and transfers heat evenly. Does what it is described to do. It's not a cheap Wally-world product. It's actually heavier than expected.

Product arrived with the box beat up, but product intact, unused. Per the box, this should be used ONLY with the Iwatani portable butane stove. However, this fits on my gas range, so this weekend, I will see if it will be a successful attempt or not. Stay tuned, will update this review. *** UPDATE*** 3/14/21 NAILED it! This worked just fine on my gas range; followed the pictures on the mix I ordered separately, rotated the pan several times and had great results. For those unfamiliar with Asian cuisine and the use of chopsticks, you may find this challenging, but don’t give up. You will master it — it’s not rocket science. For the oil-free folks, this may not be for you. The oil is necessary to keep them from sticking. Maybe after a few uses/seasonings it’ll eventually become truly nonstick. I didn’t want to scratch my toy so I used wooden chopsticks vs the metal picks, and didn’t have a problem. I purchased the takoyaki mix/sauce and got the kewpie Mayo from my Asian store. Still have to figure out how to adjust the temp so it’s not crispy brown on the inside and moist inside.

I've made several batches of takoyaki now. This is much better (and proper) way of making takoyaki, as opposed to what I was doing prior, which is improvising using a cakepop maker. The takoyaki pan has grooves running up and down and laterally between the takoyaki chambers, so after pouring the batter, just trace using a bamboo stick or takoyaki poker to divide the batter, just jam it in that notch and trace. So easy! And no doubting yourself whether or not one takoyaki had more batter than the one next to it. I also like the sturdy construction of this takoyaki pan. It's built to last. Sometimes good octopus and fresh octopus is not easy to get in Los Angeles. I pulled from the takoyaki Git repository and made a fork to the default recipe, replacing octupus with BACON. I call this creation BACOYAKI. What you do is this, cut a couple of bacon strips into good bite sizes. Then, before adding any batter, place a bacon chunk into each takoyaki (bacoyaki?) chamber. Let each bacon piece cook somewhat, but not too much, just enough to develop some color. If a piece of bacon is exceedingly fatty, soak it up using some kitchen paper. At this point go ahead and pour the batter as you normally would, and make the BACOYAKI as you normally would. Enjoy!!!

Après avoir usé durant plus de 20 années ma précédente poêle à takoyaki importé du Japon, acheté grace à mon maître natif de Nippon, j'ai eu du mal à en trouver une qui lui "arrivait à la cheville"; c'est maintenant chose faite. Le positif - La taille, le poids et la forme de cette poêle à takoyaki sont parfaites pour moi. - Très facile à utiliser avec la bonne recette; la traditionnelle. - L'antiadhésif est fonctionnel (reste à voir sa durabilité). - Les encoches de stabilisation sont complètement adaptées à ma gazinière. Le neutre. - Simple à nettoyer, mais cela prend du temps à cause de la forme (évidemment). Le négatif. - Les poignées ne sont pas isolées de la chaleur (mais ce n'est qu'un détail pour moi). - Un tarif franchement élevé; mais bon c'est de l'import. Bref. Ce produit me donne pleinement satisfaction.

This is the best takoyaki pan. The ridges makes it easy to separate the batter while cooking. The spaces underneath helps to lock the pan on any stove. It’s worth the price. Such a good buy!

TL;DR Qualitativ hochwertige Pfanne, dessen Kauf ich nicht bereue und somit kann ich die Pfanne auf jeden Fall weiterempfehlen. Für diese Qualität finde ich den Preis auch in Ordnung. Übrigens kann man nicht nur Takoyaki damit machen. Die Pfanne eignet sich auch perfekt für Æbleskiver (dänische Pancake Kugeln). Auch Poffertjes sind denkbar, auch wenn sie in Original flacher sind. - Die Rillen erleichtern es einem den Teig gleichmäßig zu teilen - Die Antihaftbeschichtung verhindert ein festkleben des Teiges - Funktioniert auch auf Herden mit Kochplatten. Da es Aluminium ist, funktioniert Induktion natürlich nicht. Ob es auf Ceranfeld-Herden funktioniert kann ich nicht sagen, kann mir aber gut vorstellen, dass es genauso klappt. Ein Ring aus Aluminiumfolie hilft die Hitze besser beisammenzuhalten. Meiner Meinung nach ist ein Gaskochfeld also nicht unbedingt notwendig. Irgendwo wurde in den Kommentaren bemängelt, dass die Pfanne in China hergestellt wird. Nein, es ist keine Fälschung. Es ist eine Originalpfanne von Iwatani, nur eben in China hergestellt. Dieser Umstand mindert aber nicht die Qualität dieser Pfanne. Die Verarbeitungsqualität ist sehr gut. Keine Grate, keine Beschädigungen der Antihaftbeschichtung. Sowas kann natürlich immer mal vorkommen, auch bei Made in Germany Produkten. Zur Langlebigkeit der Antihaftbeschichtung kann ich noch nicht viel sagen. Früher oder später wird diese aber sicherlich in Mitleidenschaft gezogen (wodurch diese aber auch nicht unbrauchbar wird, meine Meinung.). Alles verscheißt nun einmal mit der Zeit. Unnötig zu erwähnen, dass man auch nur mit nicht metallischen und auch eher stumpfen Utensilien arbeiten sollte (um die Langlebigkeit zu erhöhen). Diese langen Holzspieße (ja, diese sind "spitz" aber nicht auf mikroskopischer Ebene) oder Essstäbchen aus Holz eigenen sich perfekt für das Wenden der Takoyaki. Nachtrag 15.05.2021 Habe gerade in Erfahrung gebracht, dass in Berlin 1 Takoyakibällchen 1 Euro kostet. Das Geld für die Pfanne ist somit also locker nach ein paar mal benutzen wieder drin. In meinem Fall hat sich die Pfanne bereits nach einer Woche amortisiert^^ Der Teig lässt sich übrigens auch sehr gut selber herstellen. Einfach 250 ml Dashi mit 100 g Mehl 405 (9,8g Protein) und einem Ei (M) mischen. Kurz vor der Verwendung einen gestrichenen TL Weinsteinbackpulver hinzugeben und nochmal gut verrühren. Die Pfanne heize ich auf ca. 180-200°C auf und fülle etwas Öl (High-oelic Sonnenblumenöl (Bratöl)) in die Mulden (insgesamt etwa 25g). Die Pfanne ist zwar antihaft beschichtet ABER so wirklich gut und gold-braun werden sie nur mit Öl. Die müssen schon etwas frittieren. Itadakimasu! (Guten Appetit)

Me encanta!!! Lo estamos usando con un camping gas pequeñito y encaja a la perfección. Intuyo que usando un hornillo portátil será más fácil (que además tiene pinta de que está hecho para eso). No se pega, y se le da la vuelta a las bolitas muy fácilmente y cuando le pillas el truco es hasta relajante hacer los takoyakis. NO VALE PARA INDUCCIÓN, intuyo que en vitro normal si funcionara. Buscar la receta de takoyakis de "cooking with dog", salen increíbles.

I love it, use it for Dutch poffertjes and two full ones are enough for my whole family
