Eat Smart Digital Bathroom Scale, Weight Tracking, Grey

So no one likes to pay for bad news. That is what has held me back in my search for scales. I know I am overweight and didn't want the reminder, I know I am over 350 lbs so the "economy" scales won't work for me, and I know I just have never had a good experience with a scale - until now. First and foremost I decided to change my weight and life along with it so in doing so I started my search for a scale. My wife went to the local Wal-mart first and found a "400"lb scale for $30 that would do BMI and other stuff that I don't need or care about. She brought it home and we set it up. I know I am in the 370lb range but failed to get any kind of accurate reading (ranging from 345lbs to error meaning I was over 400lbs). Aauuugh another bad experience with a scale, but I have to have one if I am to track my weight loss. So I searched amazon and found this scale in my under $50 bin. The reviews were high praise but I was sold by the reviewer who spoke about how when theirs didn't work they left a negative review, and then the company contacted them about the review and replaced the scale. And with that assurance I ordered my scale for less than $30. It arrived in no time flat (free super saver and still got here within 2 or 3 days). So I unboxed it, checked the batteries, found a hard flat surface and stepped on....and go an error. Are you kidding me? Oh whats that on the screen ...a C? Oh and on the sticker on the scale says to take a second and calibrate it hmmmm, maybe I should do that. Well what do you know it worked beautifully. For the first three days I weighed myself four times a day just playing with it and this scale gave consistent readings every time. You will not only never regret buying it - you will love using it daily. What you need to know: # Solidly built - not cheap like other more expensive and "feature rich" alternatives. # Consistent and accurate readings with a .2 incremental measurement. # fast readings # accurate even if you move - I mean seriously who builds (other companies) a scale for people who have to look over our bellies to see our feet and then says "don't move"? # pretty design with an easy to read display # A company that believes in its products and stands behind what they build

I am very happy with this purchase. The scale feels sturdy and delivers highly reliable weight tracking. The best part is the massive lighted screen which makes reading the numbers effortless. Plus, getting a body measurement tape included in the box is an awesome value. A perfect 10/10 product!

I just bought our second of these -- the first one worked perfectly for 13 years! Accurate, huge well-lit numeral screen. By far the best scale I have ever had or seen at friends houses. Looks elegant too!

I purchased this scale because I have been going to the gym a lot recently and have found that the scale they offer in the locker room is not the best quality. It is an OLD dr.'s office type scale with the bar you move the weight markers side to side on. The stem on it wiggles and wobbles and with hundreds of people on and off of it every day, I wasn't so sure it had even ever been calibrated, or how often it was. I ordered the scale along with two other items (on two separate orders by the way) and noticed a tracking number email was sent to me for all three items in two different emails with the same tracking number. made me a little nervous, but normally never have a problem with anything from amazon and if i do they always make it right, so i thought nothing else of it. I did receive the package in the next few days and when i went to pick the box up it felt like it was going to crumble just from touching it. I thought that probably wasn't a good omen, but opened it up and it was in one piece and thought it might be okay. I was wrong. I read the instructions (which are very easy) to make sure it was calibrated, and we tried a 25lb weight on it. it read 24.8. okay well the review does say it is correct to within .2 lbs, and who knows if the weight we have is "exact". my fiance weighed himself. I weighed myself and we moved the scale to put it on the counter to take upstairs and all of a sudden the screen shows 4.6 with nothing on the scale. I thought it was a fluke. we 'recalibrated' and tried again... my weight was off by a whole pound that time. (in 10 minutes). i moved it upstairs to the bathroom and had the same 4.6 show up. the next day we recalibrated again and i weighed myself it showed a weight that was off by another pound from the night before when i got it. I didn't think much of it and went to the gym. i came home and figured i'd try again. this time it told me i was a full 2.5 lbs lighter... while i love the idea that i could drop weight like that... not the case. so i called and amazon said that i could return it, but because it is sold by a third party market that I would have to buy the same scale again for a replacement and just wait for the credit to show up on my account. understood. issued me a return label, dropped it off at UPS and ordered another. got the second one... i got it and the same problem with this one... only this time it was showing 4.6 AND 4.8 at times when nothing was on the scale. I was starting to think it was something that should happen but didn't see any instances of this on the EatSmart website in the FAQ section. I weighed myself at night when i got it and it told me I was 2 lbs heavier than it told me i was previously with the last weigh of the other scale before i returned it. I weighed myself in the morning today... 2.3lb difference again... If it didn't seem to fluctuate so much between readings and seemed more consistent, maybe i could live with it, but when you are trying very hard to monitor yourself and get an accurate reading this scale just isn't working for me. I got this one because of all the eatsmart scales it seemed to be accurate (per all the wonderful reviews) without the logo emblazoned on the front of it which i wasn't such a fan of, as well as the fact that it has between 4 and 5 stars with over 5,000 reviews. I REALLY wanted this one to work. I liked the design of it, it didn't look cheaply made, loved the easy to read display and the fact that there wasn't a logo on it, it wasn't too big etc. But after the two possible 'lemons' I just don't know if I can stomach trying to order again, and have it possibly show up like that for a third time and have to figure out how to find time to return a third. Really wanted this one to be 'it'. very happy to hear so many good reviews for others though! wish i was able to get a working one of this guy. not sure if it was just being knocked around in shipment or what. better luck to everyone else who orders though! ***UPDATE!!!***: about 20 minutes after writing this review I received a phone call from the vice president of EatSmart. He was fantastic! He explained to me that if the scale was on and it was picked up and put down that the scale would most likely show something around 4.7 because that is how much the scale weighs itself, but that there should be a C that shows up after it. When it turns of and you press on it again it should just show a 0.0lb. He explained also that it had to be on a flat surface, and I told him it definitely was because it was on our pergo flooring. unbeknownst to me, they sometimes measure inconsistently with pergo or vinyl/linoleum tiling because they are cushioned! those were the two surfaces that I was using it on. He went on to tell me that the 12" ceramic tiles you can get from home improvement stores can be placed under the scale for a more accurate reading. He wanted to trouble shoot with me when i was at home in front of the scale but i had already sent the first and second one back. He told me he would send out a new one to me, and even enclose a tile. ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!?! what incredible customer service!!!! I received my new scale yesterday and have used it a few times and it is MUCH more consistent! Thank you EatSmart!!!! I can confidently say that I am totally satisfied with my new scale and have already told my friends about it, one friend who just bought one too!

On first impression, I was really pleased with this scale. It had a clean, modern appearance. It seemed quite effortless. I stepped on it. It gave me a weight that seemed reasonably accurate and I was happy. It was very nice to have the 0.2 lb increments instead of rounding up or down to the nearest pound. After owning it for a couple months, I found that it the scale had become consistently inconsistent. I checked to see if the batteries were low and it was not. After seeing that this product had thousands of 5 star reviews, I wondered why I was running into problems with this scale so frequently. I decided to contact the seller and I am glad I did! I would rate the seller's service a 5 star experience. I received a quick reply (less than an hour after I contacted them) and easy instructions on how to troubleshoot one of the problems I was having with the scale. He was up front and honest about one of the other problems not having a simple resolution. These were the problems I encountered: Problem 1: The scale would not consistently give a weight reading for my young son who weighs about 26 to 27 lbs. Sometimes he would step on the scale and it would display his weight. Other times, when he stepped on the scale it would light up, but only display his weight as 0.0 Response from seller to problem 1: "The issue with your son though we probably can't fix though. Most bathroom scales are going to be calibrated at a first calibration point around 40 lbs.....so under that weight its not going to be terrible reliable." Problem 2: Both my husband and I noticed that from time to time, this bathroom scale would display inconsistent weight readings when we stepped on it 3 times in a row. What made it even trickier is that it would display the same exact inaccurate weight 2 times in a row, followed by what seemed like a more realistic weight on the third time that I stepped on the scale. The first two weights that it displayed showed that I was 25 lbs lighter than I weighed the day before so I instantly knew to question it's accuracy. Seller's solution for problem 2: This was a much easier fix. He told me to reset the unit by removing all the batteries. Then to be sure to place the unit on a hard, flat surface once I put the batteries back in. "The hard floor is really important....optimally you want either hardwood, ceramic tile or concrete. Stay away from softer floors like linoleum and vinyl if possible." Then I was instructed to recalibrate the unit (and he suggested I do so each time the scale is moved)... "Step/tap down on the scale and press on it with your foot so the scale 0.0 displays (but don't step on fully). Then let the scale turn off (this auto-zeros and calibrates the scale). You can then step on and weigh yourself." After following those simple instructions to reset and recalibrate my scale, it's been working well for getting adult weights. It's still hit and miss with my son's weights but as the seller mentioned, the scale is not reliable for weights under 40 lbs. I have the scale placed on hardwood so the firm surface isn't a problem. However, it is a bit unfortunate that it isn't as accurate if placed on linoleum or vinyl flooring since it is a bathroom scale after all. So far I've only had this scale for a couple months but I am hoping to get many more months of consistently accurate readings from this scale.

Rec'd 5/14/2013 today. Model ESBS-01/2013 Version. With this new updated-corrected version, tap once on scale, ONLY 0.0 stays on few seconds while calibrating--then screen goes dark. NOW, ready to weigh yourself. Whenever scale is moved, do the tap-0.0-calibrate again--weigh yourself after that. (also have Taylor digital from K-Mart, using 9 volt battery, that reads each next 1/2 pound.) CON: EatSmart came with four DEAD "aaa" HEAVY DUTY TRIAL ONLY BATTERIES-not even alkalines ! Disgraceful, EatSmart - How can an upscale company like yourself with basic to expensive scales, just throw in junk batteries? / Like kids' battery operated Xmas gifts--batteries not included, and nobody bought extras. / Compared scale readings between scales, which are between 1/2-1 pound apart at the most-Taylor same price. Checked for memory improperly resetting itself, by just giving last weight again, if less than 2-5 pound change, as reviews discuss. If I weigh 200 pounds, then grab 2 pound weight--I should be at 202...NOT 200 again, as reviews seem to say. I DO NOT find this problem. SO FAR - get consistent personal weight within 1 pound and I'm not moving scale. Moving scale makes no difference if you just reset to 0.0 /Temperature appears to affect readings on both electronic scales the same--1-2 pounds lower when colder by 10-20 degrees. After calling Taylor, they said how to fix my error weights, by a not-in-the-book resetting procedure-that worked. They also said their scale is affected slightly by temperature. SO, truthfully, ANY scale basically gives your weights over a period of time, so you finally will see a pattern of weight gain or loss--seeing a very accurate and consistent DAILY change, you might not notice. Taylor now my backup, because it's few years older, and the EatSmart is quite updated. Glad both working, but only bought EatSmart because Taylor got the errors problem. EatSmart screen remains dark 1 in 30+ times, but just the 1st weight attempt--lightly step on it the same every time. Blue numbers easy to read in bright conditions--better than the red digit Taylor. First sight of tempered glass platform made me think---ME, step on glass to get weight---eeek---LOL. The 4 aaa batteries much better than those old type 9 volt batteries that even cost more. 400 pound scale limit too high, as a smaller range would give better accuracy....be it a thermometer or any measuring device. Buy this bottom of the line EatSmart, but be sure you have 4 new aaa batteries within grasp ! Seems they have updated to correct problems listed in amazon reviews. with this 2013 version. It's true, once 0.0 calibrated and not moved, just step on it---I say this EatSmart is weigh-in accurate. I take away 1 star because of company supplying dead batteries. Weigh at same time of day, every weighing. UPDATE 6/13/2013 - working very good--reads same as my other scale, basically. ---UPDATE 8/5/2013 - My old Taylor shows error too often now, so retired it--but does still eventually show a correct reading ! My EatSmart excellent and no battery problem. The 9volt Taylor battery was always going dead every month or so. Surely, this is the pick of the best at Amazon, still. UPDATE UPDATE .... Works Great......but, seems to think I'm gaining weight----naw, can't really be......AND TO TOP OFF THINGS - my waist tape measure says my waist is bigger ! UPDATE 6/27/2014 -- Scale has been showing less weight and a new tape measure shows a smaller waist measurement, SO don't know why it used to pick on me, showing more weight...lol. ANYWAY....scale works like new, still. Knowing if my weight is going up or down a small amount, is more important than the actual weight....readings are accurate in small degrees. / I'd like to say, this scale SHOULD BE rated at 4 stars.... because it came with dead battery ! UPDATE UPDATE 2/2/2017 ---- 3 1/2 years later, works like new

Before I say anything else, I feel like I need to state my reason for taking the time to review a bathroom scale on Amazon (some of the other reviewers on here seem really suspicious). I have never previously reviewed a product on Amazon (at least not that I can remember), but EatSmart includes a small card in their product box explaining that they are a small, American company that relies on reviews to make a living. They also recently sent me a follow up email asking that I review the product. From the number of reviews on here I assume that this is standard practice for them and that it is a tactic that works. I have no problem with that. I think this is the first time a company has asked that I review a product purchased off Amazon (not just to rate the transaction). On to the scale: this is the first time I've ever purchased a bathroom scale (I am under 30), so I don't have much to compare this to. I wanted a digital scale with decimal precision but I didn't want to spend a lot of money on it, so the EatSmart scale seemed like a good choice. It is attractive in that very sleek, modern way (which is not at all my aesthetic, but I doubt I'd ever find one that is, and is that really the most important thing here?), and the display is large and easy to read. The earlier model apparently had a "tap on" issue, but mine is not like that: you just step on and it weighs you. Easy-peasy. After a recent trip to the vet (where my cat was weighed), I put my cat on the scale to check the accuracy. Good stuff. I've even weighed my 5 lb. hand weights. Again, on the money. Other perks: the scale comes with batteries (woohoo!) and a small body tape measure. The tape measure is sturdy and easy to use. The batteries are working fine but I've only had this thing since January 8th, so I would expect nothing less. If the batteries suddenly die I'll update this to include that. Important to know: the scale must initially be calibrated and the product comes with a warning that it must be put on a hard, level surface for best accuracy. I assume this is pretty standard and even if not, this is not a big deal. If the scale is moved AT ALL it needs to be recalibrated (instructions come with it) or it will not be accurate. This is a bit annoying since I have multiple pets and an occasionally clumsy boyfriend, but again, I assume this is pretty standard thing when dealing with precision digital scales. On the whole, after six-seven weeks of use, I am very happy with my scale. It arrived quickly, it's not ugly, and it seems to be very accurate. It doesn't do anything fancy, but I don't need it to. I am a satisfied customer.

After purchasing, company sent "we'll give you a free X if you review our product on amazon" = skewed reviews. It works fine I guess. You have to kick it, wait for it to autocalibrate before using. edit: After posting this comment the next morning received a message on my answering machine discouraging me for making THIS REVIEW. Apparently the 3 sentences above is a "real negative review". The message said in summary: we're a family owned business, this review is hurting us, your review is unfair, offering something in exchange for reviews is a practice they stopped awhile back and, 'we can make it right if you are upset with the product'. Basically I posted a comment and they used my personal info to give me home phone call scolding me for posting a negative comment. A simple "we want to make things right" message would have been respectable but they stated things in a very personal and intimidating way. I don't want to be worried about getting a phone call every review I make in the case the company doesn't like my views. In disclosure, I made this purchase June 23 09. I went back to review products I hadn't reviewed that I had for awhile. I believe this to be a deceptive practice because: after only a few days of having the product the consumer is encouraged to make a review, words like "for a limited time" add to the sense of urgency and it offers something in exchange for the review, well targeted to the demographic, intentionally creating a bias. I buy things based on the reviews usually and after purchasing I realize why this product had so many rave reviews. Had it not I would have more carefully shopped around. At the time of receiving their review-for-free-stuff email there were about 450+ reviews. If they did stop this practice it doesn't change my review because I find the practice, and its residual effects deceptive and unfair. I'm sure there's a lot of family owned business and one of them could be competing with eatsmart in the search results without this unfair advantage. In all honesty the scale woks fine, it's definitely a scale, and I wouldn't have written so much about a relatively normal priced normal scale if they wouldn't have personally called me. I take strong offense knowing that my reviews are NOT anonymous and the manufacturer has all my contact information, and can specifically associate it to the negative reviews, despite having purchased this long ago. That is amazon's fault to be fair however it is a wakeup call. To have my personal information used to strongly encourage me to remove my comment is more than a little upsetting. If the answering machine message was just something like, "If you are unhappy with our product please let us know and we'll try to make things right" it would have been more respectable. However they added to that, in effect, "your comment is hurting us, especially in christmas time, we're family owned" leaves a disgusting feeling. You can't guilt trip customers for their reviews. This encourages users that purchased directly from amazon to be intimidated next time they want to review honestly. This left me very uncomfortable and upset. If by 'hurting' this company I let consumers know that the quantity of reviews and high ratings for this product are misleading and may not indicate this is the best scale on amazon, then I am accomplishing something positive, consumer protection, which is what reviewing is all about.

Slightly too expensive for comparative products in the market

I've had this scale for exactly a year now, and I couldn't be happier with it. It's accurate, quick to use, super simple without any unnecessary or confusing features, and looks pretty good too for what it's worth. The screen is bright and the numbers are pretty easy to read. I use it almost every day, and I haven't had to change the battery it came with yet. The only concern you might have is that the top surface is glass and can potentially be slippery when either it and/or your feet are wet, like if you just came out of the shower, or if it got steamy enough in the bathroom that it's developed a little condensation. I've never slipped, not even close, but I would probably be more comfortable giving a plastic-topped model to an elderly loved one. I'm probably being over-cautious, but it's something to keep in mind. Its little feet are quite grippy, so I wouldn't worry about it sliding out from under you.

En general estoy más que satisfecho con esta compra. La báscula tiene un diseño muy bonito y el hecho de que cuenta con tecnología step-on es un punto a favor, pues ayuda a prolongar la vida útil de las baterías, aun cuando se use constantemente a lo largo del día; en mi caso la usamos tres personas unas dos o tres veces diarias, y al día de hoy las pilas que vienen incluidas aun tiene carga. La báscula hasta ahora me ha arrojado resultados precisos, pues los he comparado con otras básculas y la diferencia suele ser mínima o incluso inexistente. La relación calidad-precio es muy buena, pues la compra también incluye una cinta métrica muy bonita (de 150 cm) y las cuatro baterías AAA que necesita la báscula, pudiéndose usar desde el día que llega.

Easy to use, incredibly accurate, and bright clear digital display. This scale is awesome. I use it daily. I prefer pounds, but it can also be set to kilograms and "stone." Who in the world uses stone though? What a ridiculous unit of measurement. Anyway. Buy this scale for the pounds and kilos. It's great! Highly recommended!
