If you are a Tommy Dorsey fan then you know the name of the Pied Pipers but they did much more than that in their career. This double CD set from Jasmine with excellent liner notes by Ossie Dales offers 50 reasons why they should be considered one of the best of the era.In a mix of novelty numbers and standards of the 1940s you can hear the vitality that is their vocal style. All the great composers are here too and if I had to select just 2 songs that represent their ability it would be "On the Sunny Side of the Street" and "Whatcha Know Joe". Listen out for Johnny Mercer and the fun he adds.The mono sound quality is true to the originals and this is a truly nostalgic and welcome compilation.
