The REAL "Special Forces" watch.
I have always been a big fan of G-Shock watches, since Casio already makes an incredible watch for a great price, but the G-Shocks take it to another level. I bought two G-Shocks after graduating from boot camp back in 2010. This particular one is just now getting replaced, and the other one is still going somehow. Aside from one minor change, this is exactly how I remember it being. PROS Battery life is insane, and far exceeds the estimated lifespan. I believe when I bought my first DW6900, I believe the manual said that the battery life should be about 7 years. I don't know what I did to it, but mine lasted almost 15 years. I have another model that is still going from 2010. They're rugged without compromising comfort. The straps take a bit of breaking in to get the stiffness out, but once that's done, you barely even know it's there. This is light and comfortable enough that I wear this to bed, in the shower, while swimming, basically 24/7. There's rarely a time when I'm NOT wearing this watch. These keep time with extreme precision. After about a week of wear, I have gained about .25 seconds when compared to my phone clock, since when I set the time on my watch, I made sure everything down to the second was synced up. This may result in needing to make a minor adjustment a couple times a year, but maybe not even then. I know a lot of people like the inverted, fully black display, but I prefer the standard screen that this watch has, I find it a lot easier to read quickly. I also find that when backlit, this display is far easier to read in the dark than the inverted display. CONS I believe my old DW6900 had a steel buckle, and this new one is plastic. If that's the case, it's a bit disappointing that the price of the watch has gone up a bit, but they've changed out a metal part for a plastic part. Having said that, the buckle is easy enough to change out for a steel one. VERDICT There's a reason that, despite all these watch brands that claim they're "Special Forces rated watches", the only one I know of that is actually used by most American special forces is the G-Shock, specifically the DW6900. They trust this watch because it's easily affordable, it keeps time with precision and accuracy, it can stay on someone's wrist without irritation for weeks on end, and it can take a serious beating and keep going. My last DW6900 survived firefighting trainers, tear gas, two deployments, and so much more. I am looking forward to the adventures I'll have with this watch on my wrist!

Bargain watch, great appearance and functionality, with the Casio 'G-Shock' imprimatur
Great watch and what a bargain it is. Casio first introduced the 'G-Shock' brand with their 1983 GW-5000C model (today's Casio G Shock GW-5000-1JF is practically the same thing), famously designed by a Casio engineer around the 'triple ten' concept: 10 year battery life, water resistant to 10 bar, and survive a 10m fall. Remember the television commercials, where the Casio watch is struck by a hockey stick and slammed into the net (and keeps on ticking...)? Today, the G-Shock brand continues, with a multitude of variations and styles, all rugged and providing different combinations of digital display, chronograph type functions, water and shock resistance, and more. Frankly I purchased this simply to see if I would like wearing a watch of this style. I'm pleasantly surprised to find that I like wearing it, it's comfortable, and I like the styling. A lot. I selected this particular model because it was (at the time) the least expensive G-Shock model sold on Amazon. There are one or two others close to it in price, and then there are models that are much more expensive. All the way to several hundreds of dollars for the latest, fanciest and most limited edition models. There are people who collect these things and keep track of all things G-Shock, track the variations on web sites and blogs. It's developed into quite the product line for Casio, but what I like is that the inherent ruggedness and functionality of the watches has still been preserved. Even if the watches are now all** made in China (** there are a couple of high-end models still manufactured in Japan, but only a couple as far as I've been able to determine). This has a very legible display that shows date and time, along with the expected features of stopwatch and alarm. I haven't made use of the other features but they are not difficult to use if desired. The display can be briefly illuminated at night time by pressing the gray button just below the display. This watch does the job for me. I'm 100% satisfied. I'll probably buy another, either to get a slightly different style for some variety, or even just to have a backup in case I damage or lose this one. Or to give as gifts. The season is approaching, after all.

Really great solid watch!
Great classic watch! Comfortable and brand new as described! They sell a metal stainless steel guard on here as well for a few dollars more. Highly recommend! Keeps it from scratching and looks really good on the watch!
