Nostalgia
A trip back in time. Very different from the incessant rap crap so much of today’s “music” consists of.

Good selection of WW II era songs
It is a good set of CDs to have if you like the music of that era. These are good recordings and fun to listen to when you are working at home.

A beautiful and indispensable package.
A cornucopia, in spite of occasional dreck. I grew up in the 40s listening to all these records on the radio. True, Guy Lombardo and Rudy Vallee, even Spike Jones, can be a little hard to take, but about 85 % of this package is piquant beyond words. My wholly biased view is that these splendid songs and bands and singers are not only reserved for the Greatest Generation but also for their children, who heard this music like the resonating wall paper of their young toddler lives, and now long to hear it over and over. If you like most 40s songs, you can't go wrong here. And the sound transfer is terrific, considering that most of these clearly came from breakable shellac singles. No clicks and pops. Just terrific nostalgia and great performances, although the orchestra backing Vallee sounds like a cheap version of a Bad Chinese Music Festival band, yuck! It is compensated for by the realization that Les Brown's band, featuring Doris Day, was way better than anyone ever imagined. The Big Band Magic disks are indispensable, but I would include this package in any collection reprising the 40s. I love it.

A Great Sounding Sentimental Journey
What a beautiful, sentimental journey it is for me to listen to this music again! My father was a WWII vet who loved and listened to swing and big band stuff from the early to mid 40s all day every day when I was growing up. Listening to this now brings his face clearly to memory for me, and I can see Dad in our old dining room working on a puzzle or at his desk doing a crossword puzzle. I can smell his pipe filled with Kentucky Club Mixture. I can smell food cooking in Mom's kitchen. Ahhh... this music is precious to me for that alone! All the tunes my Dad loved and that I was captive audience to then are on here, and guess what? I love them now too! Dad was right! (Again!)I'm always a little nervous when ordering old music on a new medium - I'm sure we've all bought something on CD that we loved on LP years ago and been disappointed with the sound quality on the new medium. The sound quality on these discs is amazing, especially considering the age of the source material! I was pleasantly surprised, really surprised, at the excellent sound when I popped the first CD into my CD player.Definitely, buy this CD. It's an excellent buy, and would be at twice the price. Don't get any ideas, Amazon >:^[

Great music for dancing
The cd case was damaged but the CD is not damaged. The music from that time period is wonderful.

Music our parents or grandparents saw as a key element in defining their lives.
Melodic expressions of moments caught gently between the angst of combat and the fear of emptiness and loss. So many that did not return, left on echoes of these Melodie’s.

I liked this collection
I liked this music collection pretty well, which is a bit surprising since I don't think I'm the target audience (born just before 1960). There was more jazz than would have been my preference, but that may just be what one should expect from 1940's music. Much of the music I had not heard before, but I found some songs I like. Happily, I will pass this set of CDs on to my older sister, who will probably find the music and the era much more familiar. The CDs arrived safely, and there is a fair amount of information on the songs (composer, date).

Superb Collection - for enthusiasts or new-comers
I am an American Standard / Swing Era enthusiast. I had about 1/3 of the versions on the set; 1/3 of same titles alternate versions; 1/3 were new. That makes this set worth it. There are almost no clunkers. And some prizes I did not have and would have had difficulty getting individually. The/ 'Mairzy Doats' version is delightful. 'Dance With a Dolly' is a tune my mom sang from the War.
