Physical Chemistry

I think the general consensus on undergraduate-level physical chemistry books is that a great one does not exist. I agree. Compared to all textbooks written for every subject I've ever taken, this book is horrible. However, when rated next to every P-Chem book I've ever tried to read, this one is actually the best. That having been said, I still can't find it within myself to rate it with 5 stars. And that's from someone who actually enjoyed most of physical chemistry. I think most of my classmates still shudder in horror whenever they walk by the old classroom... but at least they're not screaming in terror, so maybe that can be attributed to the textbook not sucking quite as bad as others. :)

This book was written for Physical Chemists by Physical Chemists. I can see the appeal to some (including me), but it can be very hard to understand because it's so formal. However, I appreciate the specificity of the notation.I wouldn't recommend this book over Physical Chemistry: A Molecular Approach by McQuarrie, but having both is a great idea.

P.Chem is a pain no matter how you slice it. This book made it less painful.

The book was the same one as there is also an international edition available for way cheaper than this book( us Ed.) it was only brand new and came with the cd which I really needed. Only thing I wasn't happy about was amazon shipped it like 6 days after I ordered and the cc was charged. But I got in time so I was glad. Overall satisfied with the transaction.

This is physical chemistry, so it surely is no walk in the park. However, this book has its good chapters, and its poorly-formed ones as well. Good examples are provided, etc... This is just like any other textbook: Contains great depth of stuff you don't want to know, and scratching the surface on the stuff the professor wants you to know. However, Levine is one of the better authours in the field of chemistry, that is a given. In addition, the book is light, and easy to carry, though can be costly. Look for a good deal! They are out there.

It took quite a while to ship, although the content is not easily understood and the book said it was new but it still had scratches and dents, but it works for a good price.

The book arrived much faster than expected but the condition of the book was not exactly new as stated. There was slight damage to the spine and the corners were a little dented. but overall, satisfied with the product.

I had the displeasure to use this book for two semesters of P-chem. Maybe it is because my professors expected a lot of us mathematically. The issue with the book is that Levine may get into absolutely every detail of a concept he lacks examples that can translate to the actual work expected on homework and tests. The book is far too wordy, you will lose the forest through the trees in almost every section, especially the later chapters. Luckily doing Chemical Engineering has allowed me to have a lot of supplementary material for the first semester. For second semester..... go to youTube it will save you so much time. Personally I think you could get away with not buying this book for your class, my grades actually improved when I stopped reading it. The conversion tables are almost non-existent which amazes me. Luckily I had a few thermodynamics books to fall back on, I don't know what the Chem Majors did for easy references.

Un libro eccezionale se si vuole studiare ed approfondire al meglio le prime basi della termodinamica chimica. Il libro è ben struttorato e ogni singolo argomento è ben descritto. Interessanti anche gli esercizi.Lo raccomando sicuramente agli studenti di ingegneria chimica che si cimentano per la prima volta con gli studi di termodinamica e che non si lasciano intimorire troppo dall'inglese.

Stampato su carta sottile, è arrivato un po' danneggiato, però è arrivato nei tempi indicati dalla consegna standard! Di per sé il libro è fantastico, sia per completezza che per metodo di approccio (l'ho usato per preparare un esame di termodinamica). Consigliatissimo!

The text is very good. But it is indian edition. And condition of the book is poor

It was known to me that it is an excellent book. For that reason I bought it.
