It's waterproof which some of the knockoffs are only water resistant....big difference. The capacity is perfect for enough clothes and supplies for a two week trip. All of the latching mechanisms are great and really hold well. Negative pressure valve built-in too, so these engineers were really thinking hard on this one. Warranty on the whole thing for life too so I'm a huge fan now. Plus, it has that tactical feel and appearance which doesn't hurt. No need to tie a red string on the handle either....I'm the only one with this handsome case at the baggage claim. Overall and after several months of travel using it I'd buy it all over again. Yes there are about 4 layers or so of the foam. It works pretty well actually. **Q: Pelican has a life time warranty. Will that still apply if I buy the product from here?** A: I was able to get a warranty repair for a Pelican Case at work without any receipt and no idea where or when it was originally purchased. They are much lighter than a normal Pelican this size and they seem just as sturdy. I haven't actually tried to see what it takes to break them, nor do I plan on it, but I can stand on it without it breaking. These are pricey, but if you need to protect something even more expensive while you fly, or store something expensive, these are a good way to go. There was a note inside of the cases about using desiccant, which I didn't think about when I purchased them.
