Scholastic Discover More: Rocks and Minerals

I did a lot of searching for a good Rocks and Gems book for my 11 year old grandson who loves rock collecting. This has all the information and descriptions and includes all the beautiful and colorful pictures to keep interest.

This book is actually pretty great. I am a librarian so I spent hours trying to pick out the right book for an 8 year old.It has many colorful and interesting photos.It has some actual science.I think some of the reading content may be a bit over the 8 year old's head, but she can grow into it and she really loved all of the photos.So this book is great for upper elementary students, possibly some early middle school. It really depends on reading level and interest in the content.

We purchased this book to accompany a kit of Geodes for our son. Our 1st grader is really interested in rocks, gemstones, crystals....especially mining for these treasures! After he cracked open his geodes, he immediately read through this reference book to learn all about his new sparkly rocks! The book is very informative with plenty of beautiful color pictures! Great book for the budding scientist!
