Guitar Pickup, 5-Band Preamp EQ LC-5 Equalizer Tuner Piezo Pickup for Acoustic Guitars

I am impressed with this! The cost was low so I was a bit skeptical. Being a semi pro player having this much adjustment on the fly is a bonus. In addition when you use the tuner it is a nice sized light which is easy to remember to turn off unlike a tiny green led. The install is a bit nerve wracking as I didnt want to make any extra scratches or mis cut holes however it came out perfect. Instructions where lacking however they are not needed with common sense. I did make a template after measuring with a caliper, and care was taken using a Dremel rotary tool. I also used painters tape around it which likely saved me from scratching it once. Again the sound is much better than expected, no excessive booming or feedback. Another install tip, take your time and double check your placement. Make a template. Be aware of the curve in your guitar and the placement of the EQ, I think this product will fit most guitars as it has a curve built into it on both parts. I am going to buy another one to put in my Alverez. That says alot! Better sound than what I have in another guitar that has a fishman set up in it. I cant see anyone being unhappy with this.

The pickup on this is fairly large. To get it into the slot on the bridge, it was necessary to chisel out the slot. I put it in a Fender Guitar I got years ago, so to me it was a neat little project to see if it would actually work.It works pretty good. Sounds pretty good. But you will need to make sure you measure your bridge slot and saddle. I had to widen the slot and then buy a new wider saddle. The saddle had to be shortened almost in half even after chiseling out the bridge.All in all, I had fun with the project and now my really old acoustic is electrified!!The first one I received, the pickup was defective and didn't work. This was really fun to troubleshoot.

It was quite a process installing this device because the former preamp created a hole wider than this one. I went to a hardware store and purchased some plexiglass. I cut a hole with a dremel to the shape of the preamp and shaped the plexiglass to the curve of my guitar with a hair dryer. Painting it black made it a pretty good cover for the wider part of the hole. If I would do anything differently, I would choose to use a pickguard instead of painting plexiglass. Otherwise, I think it came out decent.After installing the pickup, I had only some minor issues. The preamp was picking up an fm radio signal when I plugged it in. From experience, I learned that this is usually from a lack of power. I once had the same issue with some shotgun microphones and the issue was resolved by applying phantom power. Because this doesn't require phantom power, I am guessing that the issue is my battery. I think if I change the battery that might solve the issue. I also noticed that it took a bit of time for higher strings to register for the tuner. However, after a while of playing it, the tuner began to recognize them.I haven't really had a chance to test the sound quality, however, I am guessing based on the other reviews that it is pretty much what you pay for. I personally got this knowing I could have done better. Finding a perfect replacement tuner for my guitar would not have been worth the price since I plan to buy a better guitar down the line. I got this because it will suit my needs. I consider this a good option if you aren't too picky about your sound quality. There are definitely better options. However, this is not terrible for the price you pay. If you just want to get something for a plain old guitar, do it. Don't bother with a better tuner/preamp if your guitar is already junk.

After ordering and returning a similar product to other vendors, this arrived on time and in perfect condition. U-Tube videos helped with the installation methods. I ordered a thin-line Piezo pickup from another vendor to use here because I did not want the shave too much off my tusk saddle. It was a simple retro fit and all works well. When tuning I find that having to choose which string to tune every time a nuisance, but I am pleased with the results overall and I have now powered up my Epiphone Pro 1 3/4 classical guitar.... nice.
