Uniware Heavy Gauge Aluminum Mortar and Pestle Set with Non-Slip Bottom

I bought this for grinding spices and so far it is working great. This is much bigger than expected. :)

This is a great deal for the price, however be aware that it really IS NOT dishwasher safe. I had just been wiping it out up until last night at which time I put it in the dishwasher (after checking the packaging again to confirm it was ok for the dishwasher). Sadly, it looks completely different now after the washing: dull with discolored areas. I can live with the look of it but what I am most concerned about is that both mortar and pestle seem to be leeching now. I have carefully handwashed it since taking it from the dishwasher and it is turning dish cloth and my hands black. It doesn't appear to just be surface tarnish, as I can't wipe it away and get down to a surface that doesn't continue to turn my hands and towel black. I no longer feel that it is safe to use unless one is only using it for non-food/non-medicinal purposes. ie. grinding up your kid's crayons etc is probably fine, but there is no way I'm going to grind up herbs and medicines etc. :-( I really liked this set prior to the dishwasher experience. If only it hadn't been marketed as dishwasher safe. It's a wonderful, inexpensive set, just DON'T run it through your dishwasher.

I am a jewelry artisan, and I usually work with Himilayan Salt chunks, making pendants and such. I've had a hard time finding anything that works good on these bricks of salt, but this is great. It's a lot heavier that it looks, and it doesn't skid around on you at all! The price is the best for what you get, I've seen others a lot more expensive which do not work near as well as this mortar and pestle. I may order another one just to have it around. But I've been using this one for several weeks, and there is no sign that it's ever been used. I just wipe it off, and it looks brand new. Great Product!!!!

My 90.5 year old mother was struggling to swallow the gigantic pill that she takes daily, and the pill spitter could not split it evenly, leaving 2 pieces with jagged edges. Our family doctor suggested crushing the pill instead and mixing it in with applesauce or pudding. I searched Amazon and since the reviews for this product were excellent,I purchased this specific product. It is fantasic and has been a godsend. Since my elderly Mom has difficulty swallowing pills in general, we now crush all of the tablets with this Mortar and Pestle. I would definitely buy this product again, though this is so well made, I doubt I will have to replace it. I definitely recommend this product.

We got this as a birthday present for our 10 year old. She has always enjoyed sort of grinding things (crayon shavings for instance) for both science experiments and craft projects. The problem was she'd usually use some little plastic toy or something that would then never come clean. This is dishwasher safe and looks nice on her desk. She was very excited to get it and has been using it quite a bit. The pestle is a bit heavy so I would hesitate to give it to a much younger child, but for our purposes it was great.

this is really a wonderful buy. it's big..it could have doubled for a chalice at the last supper. with pestle weighs about 28 oz. i used it to crush my cats meds and some peanuts. did the job admirably.nov 17 updatei had some cumin seeds and mustard seeds and really it didnt get crushed well at all. basically i think only good for larger items i.e. the pills and peanuts

First off I wasn't expecting it to be as big as it was. you can grind just about anything, I tried it with hard seeds and even very coarse sea salt and it worked like a charm.I took a chance on this and I was really happy with my chance taking. its not only affordable, its large and has that vintage apothecary look to it.
