The M.O.P. Book: Anthology Edition is the updated and vastly expanded second edition of The M.O.P. Book, a groundbreaking manual for resolving bedwetting (nocturnal enuresis), daytime pee accidents (enuresis), and poop accidents (encopresis). Triple the length of the first edition, the new volume is for parents who are tired of waiting for their child to โoutgrowโ accidents โ who think they have โtried everything.โ The pediatric urology team at Mayo Clinic calls M.O.P. โincredibly effective.โ Parents call it โlife changingโ and โa life saver.โ If your family is worn out from your childโs struggles with accidents, you will be grateful for The M.O.P. Book: Anthology Edition. M.O.P. stands for the Modified OโRegan Protocol, a regimen named for Sean OโRegan, M.D., a pioneer in bedwetting research. The four-phase regimen, based on a combination of enemas and laxatives, has been modified by pediatric urologist Steve Hodges, M.D., of Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Published research shows M.O.P. is the only reliable solution to bedwetting and daytime accidents โ far more effective than medication, bedwetting alarms, or Miralax. M.O.P. is based on a simple, proven fact: bedwetting is caused by chronic, severe constipation. Stool piles up in the rectum, pressing against the bladder; only when the rectum is cleared out on a daily basis can it shrink back to size and stop aggravating the bladder. The M.O.P. Book: Anthology Edition not only updates the first edition, offering Dr. Hodgesโ revised recommendations in great detail, but also includes an entire second book, Answers to 52 Questions About M.O.P. formerly sold only as an ebook on the authorโs website. The anthology also includes tracking calendars for parents and children, safety guidelines and step-by-step instructions, plus โThe Physicianโs Guide to M.O.P,โ created for parents to hand to their medical professionals. The Anthology Edition offers new insight into: โขcollaborating with your doctor and your child โขadjusting the protocol if your child is not progressing โขminimizing the odds of relapse โขmanaging M.O.P. on vacation The M.O.P. Book: Anthology Edition builds on Dr. Hodgesโ acclaimed first book, Itโs No Accident, also written with veteran health and parenting author Suzanne Schlosberg. Dr. Hodges and Suzanne also have collaborated with illustrator Cristina Acosta on three related โ and very clever! โ childrenโs books, Bedwetting and Accidents Arenโt Your Fault, Jane and the Giant Poop, and Dr. Pooperโs Activity Book and Poop Calendar for Kids. Review: Dr. Pooper to the rescue... funny and informative for kids... and it worked for us! - (Also posted for The M.O.P. Book by the same authors.) I bought this book after checking out the bedwettingandaccidents.com site. Dr. Hodges' and Suzanne Scholosberg's approach seemed to make more sense than the "oh he'll grow out of it" advice I kept getting from the pediatrician for our 5 year old son's bedwetting. Sitting back and waiting isn't really my style, so this was a better fit for our family. We followed the guidance outlined in the M.O.P. book. This was just the right amount of factual explanation plus humor for a 5 year old boy. This was key to getting our son on board. (That, and some well timed bribes and treats when it felt like a drag.) The few times (at the beginning of our process) that he objected to the enema, we opened up the book to the picture of the fireman with the hose, and that worked to remind him why we were doing it. The poop chart was really helpful (and a bit convicting for all poopers in our family.... just saying) and at the beginning we would examine and compare to the chart... a little scientific observation! The M.O.P. book is a very quick read for parents, and very helpful, step by step guidance for dealing with potty problems. After reading the book, we started right away on M.O.P. and saw immediate results, which I know are not typical. Encouraged by our results, we kept at it full steam despite a regression about 15 days in. We doubled down, and have been dry now for 25 nights.... enough success to make me confident enough to write a review. I've now told lots of other moms about M.O.P. and have become, it seems, the local expert on chronic constipation. Lots of other friends are afraid of M.O.P., mainly of the enema part, because it seems too yucky. But for me, cleaning up urine-soaked sheets every morning, remaking beds every day is just as yucky. I know we could have regressions in the future, but I feel confident now that we know how to address them. Right after I publish this review, I'm going to finally cancel my Subscribe and Save order for pull-ups.... never thought it would happen! Review: Dry nights are finally our reality - "Bedwetting and Accidents Aren't Your Fault" explains the connection between constipation and bedwetting in a very simplistic and plain language way. The book walks the reader through the chain of circumstances that leads to chronic constipation, "poop accidents" and bedwetting, and the very manageable and common sense strategies that families can use to resolve these problems. The strategies outlined in the book have been a Godsend for our family and we are now seeing consistent progress in resolving my teenage daughter's bedwetting. It has given us all hope that this is the long-term solution we have been looking for, and I am so happy to say that I can see a big change in my daughter's confidence that her bedwetting will be fully resolved in the foreseeable future. One of the many nice qualities of this book is that it breaks down complex concepts about constipation as the cause of bedwetting in a way that children, teens and adults alike can understand, and provides practical solutions that are supported by science and practice. The light-hearted illustrations and annotations make this book a very readable resource that should help parents engage their kids in working together on the lifestyle changes that lead to success. I highly recommend this and plan to buy a copy for our primary care practice so that other families who are struggling as we did for so many years can have the information they need to stop the bedwetting.

This book is a LIFESAVER!!!
I cannot adequately express my gratitude for this book and how it has helped my family. Very long story short, my son started exhibiting signs of chronic constipation at age 2.5 (namely stool accidents/stool leakage), except we didn't know what was going on or why he was having this and it was very disruptive to our lives. I eventually figured out with the help of Dr. Google that this was a sign of constipation, tried some at-home remedies which had zero effect, and took him to the pediatrician. At the time I didn't know the significant difference between chronic and acute constipation - turns out neither did the pediatrician. He was treated for acute constipation, i.e. put on daily Miralax, also had several Miralax clean-outs. This all just made him worse. The pediatrician was stymied and recommended just staying on ever-increasing doses of Miralax. He was on Miralax for *months* (which I now know made his recovery once on M.O.P. much harder, since it made him much worse than he already was). Fast forward through hours and hours of online research and eventually finding this book. This wonderful, amazing lifesaver of a book. This has been my bible for the last six months. Several months after buying, the updated edition came out, which I bought as well. They have both been worth their weight in gold. I have been treating my son (now 3.5) with Dr. Hodges' approach for the last six months and we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. The authors encourage having patience with the process, which indeed is so important. And the tweaking of the protocol as we went along... oh, the tweaking. So much tweaking to individualize and figure out what works (and just as importantly, what doesn't work) for my son. Dealing with this problem has been frustrating and isolating, but this book gave me the tools I needed to be empowered to do something effective about it. I am incredibly thankful for not only this book, but for Dr. Hodges' dedicated focus in this field. The M.O.P. Book should ABSOLUTELY be required reading for any provider treating children and adolescents - I have read account after account of providers not recognizing the problems of encopresis and enuresis for what they are and not knowing/understanding effective treatments for it, and this was my own experience as well. So incredibly frustrating. Can't say enough good things about this book. Thank you, Dr. Hodges and Suzanne Schlosberg!

Accurate and Educational
As a physical therapist that treats children with bowel and bladder incontinence, as well as constipation and other conditions I have found this book to be very helpful and valuable. There are no other books that I have found yet that provide the content that this book offers, as well as being appropriate for a wider range of ages. The information that is presented is not only accurate and evidenced based, but it is explained in a way that kids can relate to and understand. It is also nice that the information is presented at a level that both younger kids can learn form but older kids are not bored with or turned off from. So far my favorite page that I keep referring back to with the kids is the one with the stretched out T-shirt picture resembling the rectum. It is helping kids and parents understand the implications of getting stretched out and why things can take time to improve. Some of the pages in this book have a large amount of information so I actually find it helpful to read the pages slowly and stop and explain or talk about each different piece on the page. I tend to point out certain points or pictures on each page and relate them to the child and their problem which makes the pages less overwhelming and allows me to use this book as a good teaching tool. This book addresses topics that are not well understood and serves a very underserved population and for that reason alone having a trust worthy source of information is very helpful.

Just what my family needed!
This book is just what I wished for after reading "It's No Accident", the authors' original book for parents. Dr. Hodges' connection between constipation and bedwetting made perfect sense to me when so clearly discussed and explained. However, I struggled to get my accident-prone 7-year old daughter to understand why I was asking her to drink Miralax and pee on a schedule. Try as I did to explain the stretched colon and the lump of poop squishing the bladder, I got blank stares. Bravo for "Bedwetting and Accidents Aren't Your Fault"! This book very creatively uses words and images that children can relate to and understand. After reading the book with my daughter, she went from blank stare to "aha" moment ... all while laughing at the very charming bunny who offers advice and encouragement. Both my daughter and I loved the book's bright, cheerful and colorful drawings which, while frequently amusing, never trivialize the topic. Most importantly, as a mom, I appreciate that the embarrassment and stigma of potty accidents are immediately addressed and that many children will hopefully be spared that embarrassment because their parents cared enough to research the real reasons for accidents and to follow Dr. Hodges' advice.

Great "Cliff's Notes" and our three year old likes it
I guess I'll be the first person to review this book. It's so new that it still smelled like printing ink when we got it! If you're not familiar with the It's No Accident book, then this children's companion book it's going to sound really weird to you. It would still be helpful to children and adults unfamiliar with main book, but it's not a typical children's potty training book. So know that before you buy. We are working with our pediatrician and following the It's No Accident book protocol, so this children's book has been very helpful to our three and a half year old. He likes this book and wants to read it every day, often while he's on the toilet :) As the person reading the book, it can be a little confusing to know when to read which parts because there is the main text, LOTS of character thought bubbles, signs, etc. It takes a few reads to find your stride. But it's more of a free form read, and for young children who like books to be predictable this can be confusing, because different people will read it different ways. And honestly we skip over some stuff that doesn't apply to us (like the page spread on enemas) and add some dialog on stuff that that does apply to us. I wish this book had focused a little more on not "holding" and going to the potty RIGHT when you feel pressure. Don't get me wrong, it does talk about this, I just wish it would have focused on it a little more. Overall it's a good book and delivers a lot of information in an easy to understand way. In fact, it's such a good "Cliff's Notes" on the main book that it's a great read for peripheral caregivers like grandparents, babysitters, and spouses who never finished the main book!

A must read for kids with accidents
I wished I knew about this picture book as well as "No Accident" by the same authors a long time ago when our 5-year old started to have accidents and never graduated night time diaper!!! We went to pediatrician and also referred to Stanford U pediatric urologist department but their advise came short to fix his problem (they were in the right direction but not sufficient). As parents it's been stressful for a long time, and my son must have been going through very tough time to deal with it. This book actually tells him it is ok and not his fault and explains what is going on (and why he has to take Miralax and do enema). We only had this book for 3 days, and my son asked me to go over it already three times while he sit on the toilet. This tells me the accidents have been bothering him (but unable to let it out), and he is keen to make it stop. We have the poo chart from this book hang in the bathroom. This book will help your children understand a lot better what is going on and what is needed and it's ok, than you trying to tell them. It took me a while to figure out the best way to read (there are narrations and descriptions on the same page) but highly recommended to any family with kids having accidents.

A much needed resource, but fomat and content could have been presented in a less " busy" manner
As a physical therapist who specializes in pelvic floor rehabilitation of adults and children, instructional books of this sort are certainly a needed source of information for parents and children, but I found this one too"busy" - too much information per page, too many liiustrations. To me it is just like looking at a loaded power point slide, i e., too much information per page. A better approach always is -Keep it short and simple . I can't recommend this book
