Another excellent addition to this series
We have all of Jane Brocket's books in the Clever Concepts series. This is another beautiful addition with lovely photographs and clear, minimal text teaching the concepts contained in the title. My two-year-old grandson loves for me to read it to him as it moves along quickly, but still has a lot to view in each picture.

This is a fun, interesting book that will help young children to learn about and use their senses ...
All around us when we check things out, we do so with our five senses because "with them we can see, touch, taste, smell, and hear." When we look through our eyes we learn to "see the world around us." There's a beautiful field of yellow and white daffodils blooming around the bases of trees and some bright green plants that form "leafy paths." It's fun to notice different colors, but also they tell us about "patterns and shapes." We can read books, check out those numbers in a window, and read signs. We can also learn when we hear things. There are loud things like clanging bells, but can you hear the soft sound of "a cat purring?"How about the sense of touch? Everything feels a bit different. Some things are sharp like the spikes on a cactus, but then there are soft things like a "fluffy flower bud." You can even learn about how things feel with your feet. Have you ever stepped in soft squishy sand at the beach? Wow, smell that freshly baked bread and flowers in a garden. There are lots of things that smell great, but then again "some are stinky like garbage or a rotten apple." Yuk! We can also learn about the world around us by tasting things. Candy can be sweet, but lemons ... well they can be sour. In this book you'll be able to learn about your senses "to explore the world" around you! This is a fun, interesting book that will help young children to learn about and use their senses. Each page is alive with an assortment of pictures that highlight a particular sense. On the introductory page, we learn about each of the five senses and on subsequent pages we learn what each sense does and are able to visit with photographic examples. For example, when we learn that "We use our ears to hear," we see a set of bells, a waterfall, and a lineup of taxi cabs ("Traffic honking). An emergent reader can tackle the text with assistance, but this book would also be a perfect introduction to the senses for preschoolers. It would be an excellent read and discuss book for circle or storytime.JANE BROCKET'S CLEVER CONCEPTS Spiky, Slimy, Smooth: What Is Texture? Fantastic!
This is a WONDERFUL early childhood book! Introduces senses- what they are, how we experience them, examples of what they look, smell etc like. Beautiful pictures. Loved the size of the book, the font selection. Text was engaging. Just perfect. Closes with questions too. Couldn't be done any better.

Damaged book
I was under the impression that this book was brand new but when I opened it, I found it was scratched and pages were bent. Stickers were put on and inside the book and there were marks/stains on some pages.

great concept book!
This is a great concept book. It's told in a story-like way so it's easily accessible (and interesting!) for preschoolers. The full page, brightly colored photos illustrate what the words state beautifully. This would be great sharing one on one or with a storytime group!
