Only issue is that thinner cables, like those provided with Apple products are too thin and tend to fall out if vertically mounted.

Perfect for cords
I have the charger under a table on the second shelf and the cable clips on the edge of the table top. This way it is easy to get the cable to charge what I need and then put it in the charging holder; no more leaning over and trying to find the right cable.
