Black & Decker/dewalt C2002-WK Pancake Compressor

I love this air compressor. I upgraded from a very small Craftsman 1.5 Gallon oil-free air compressor that I used for trim carpentry, and recently started using for car detailing to blow-out water hiding in cracks and crevices. The smaller compressor's capacity was too small, and the motor would run constantly, deafening me in the process. In addition, the curly-Q style air hose was a pain in the butt and would get tangled. This Porter Cable 6-Gallon air compressor is much nicer and allows me to work longer without hearing the motor constantly running. The included air hose is straight, not curly, and is very supple, easy to work with, and doesn't tangle. The include air gun adapter is also very nice and doesn't leak or un-thread itself like my last one. The size is just right and its not too heavy to move around when you need to. As for the noise. Why do people even ask about this? ALL air compressors are loud!! Especially if you're working in a room or on flat surfaces where the sound is amplified. If you're outside and standing 4' away from this, its bearable. Any other scenario, I'd highly recommend hearing protection. Check out ClearArmor 141001 Shooter's hearing protection headset as it does an amazing job.

I bought the PORTER-CABLE C2002-WK to handle everything from trim nailing and minor framing projects to topping off car tires and blowing dust out of workshop equipment. After using it extensively for several months, I can confidently say this is the best homeowner/DIY compressor on the market, period. It’s reliable, powerful for its size, and the value you get with the accessory kit is unbeatable.

This compressor is great for light use in clean conditions. It even runs an air chisel, albeit for a short time then you have to wait for re-pressurization. I've had mine since April 2011, using it for mostly blowing out the A/C filters for our central air, and filling tires, and light air tool use. Yesterday, it stopped compressing (my wife was air chiseling some tile/cement for a remodel of the bathroom.) During that time, there was quite a bit of dust in the air, and I'm pretty sure that's what did this compressor in. I "ass_u_me"d that it has an intake filter of some sort, but there was nothing of the kind. The reed valves looked a bit like they might have over heated, or perhaps the piston ring was shot. Either way, by the time I got to the point of trying to diagnose the problem, I think it's probably time to buy a new compressor. It's definitely not designed for servicing by regular folks, and the repair cost would probably be close to the value of the new compressor. The tank will still be useful as an additional reservoir, and now I learned a lesson, so not all's bad. If you don't put it in a harsh environment, I'm guessing you'll get way more years than what I got out of it. The amount of work that this thing did for us has way exceeded the purchase price and I don't regret it one bit. I gave it a 4, 4 the lack of serviceability, but a 5 for usability and convenience.

I can't speak to professionals but for myself, a homeowner with less demanding needs, this compressor is well suited. I needed something to top-off auto/bicycle tires and handle occasional trim nailing. Dusting off the work bench and other hard to clean items came to mind too (PC cases, keyboards, car interior, wood blinds, filters, etc.). Works great for all, although you're better off purchasing a higher quality hose and accessories. I bought the Hitachi 1/4" 100' hose so I can get most anywhere in the house from the garage (although it's small and light enough to move it around if you're sticking with the included 25' hose). As far as noise, it's not that bad at all. Louder than a vacuum, but quieter than a lawn mower. It's a low droning noise, unlike the high-pitched whine I got from my portable tire inflator (which was much louder than this compressor). Takes a bit under 3 minutes to fill completely from empty, then under a minute to refill once it drops below 120psi. Never owning a compressor before I didn't realize you need to empty it after each use. No big deal - I just use the remaining air to dust the car dash - it's great for cleaning out all those cracks and crevices (just don't blast any speaker cones). Note I was planning on getting the DeWalt D55140 since it's smaller, lighter and very quiet. I know someone who has one so I was able to try it. Seems slightly better built too. If you just plan on doing trim nailing and tire filling I recommend it over this one. However for dusting the 1 gal capacity is limiting - you get about 30sec of 40psi air - the compressor kicks in but just can't keep up (you just have to stop and wait for it to refill). With the Porter-Cable I can get continuous 40-50psi with the compressor running. If this is not a need, the DeWalt may be a better choice.

I clean 2-3 firearms a day and was spending a fortune in "canned air", which didn't work all that well to begin with. Used an interactive tool based upon your stated needs which said I needed a minimum 9-12 gallon capacity. Took a chance on this (6 gallon) since I wanted the lighter weight. I LOVE it! Yes, it does kick on after only 2-3 blow dry applications. But it is only on for thirty seconds or less and only takes a couple of minutes to fully "charge" when starting your daily use. It is no louder than your vacuum cleaner when "charging" and can't be too bad since my dog walks up to it when it is compressing air. I only cared about the blow gun; it isn't the sturdiest but works well and the threads came with Teflon tape pre-applied. Nothing leaks; I've left it alone for four hours or more and the gauges have stayed steady. Did read the downloaded manual, forgot about the break in, read the included instructions which didn't include the break in, and then found out it is no longer required. Big sigh of relief. For my use I love this. For any heavier application I would buy this brand but get a bigger tank.

Who would think that having a compressor would make such a big difference in a person's life, but it has. I've used this little compressor to clean my computer, clean smoke alarms (they go mad when dust or a little bug gets stuck in them) and the obvious maintain car's tire pressure. For me being able to put air in my tires at home makes this compressor worth having. The hassle of using a commercial compressor with their timers and wonky hoses is enough to make you go mad, especially when you're in a dress and heals! I once spent several dollars just to fill two tires. If you're fortunate to find a free compressor, there is usually something wrong with it and it comes with a line of waiting vehicles with impatient drivers. The first time I put air in my tires at home, I felt such relief. As a previous reviewer noted the hose is on the cheap side, but for household stuff it works just fine. There is a fine assortment of nozzles too. The compressor is easy to maintain, instructions and warnings are clearly written. I purchased this compressor almost a year ago and waited until now to write a review. Wanted to see if something bad about it would come up with use, it hasn't. My Porter-Cable compressor is one of my favourite tools!

The Porter-Cable C2002-WK Oil-Free UMC Pancake Compressor is lightweight (34 lbs.) but is still a potent compressor for its small footprint/low profile. Since it is oil free there is no oily residue around the motor or on your floor. Start-up is spontaneous without blowing your 15 amp circuit breaker, but if you have other electrical appliances running of the same circuit, I would recommend using a different electrical outlet. Since this unit has a small footprint/low profile, it is a breeze carrying it to different locations when needed. This compressor is exceptionally suitable for the basic homeowner/household tasks: blowing off your workbench, tire inflation, blowing out those dusty/soiled vacuum filters and for the occasional do-it-yourselfer nail gun jobs around the house with the higher 130-150 PSI settings. The Porter-Cable C2002 has a bigger holding tank (6 gallon) and higher CFM than most compressors in this class category and it's a cut above in designed than most other small compressors. As far as some comments about this unit being too loud, in my opinion it's not any louder than any other compressor of similar size or capacity. Before initial start-up be sure to follow the break-in procedure precisely; since this compressor has an oil-less motor, it will make a huge difference in how long the compressor motor survives and avoid you from some unwarranted anguish. I very much recommend this compressor but only for trivial chores around the house and/or those small to medium carpentry jobs requiring low to medium CFM use. Update: 01-15-2012 - According to the manufacture (see comment) this compressor Porter Cable Model C2002 no longer requires a break-in period.

I love this little compressor. I use it mainly to maintain our three cars and six bikes and various other small tires and toy inflatables - not for air tools. It's small enough that it stores away in a cabinet. I just pull it out and plug it in, and then while it is filling I plug one of the outputs into a hose reel system that sits up and out of the way, on top the storage cabinet by the ceiling, and it charges the 50-ft hose immediately. When I am done, I disconnect, bleed it, wrap the cord and put it away. It is pretty loud when it is on, but I can often do whatever filling task I am on without it cycling on a second time, During the few times I have forgotten and left it charged overnight, it comes on only very occasionally (maybe once overnight), so it holds the charge well. I'm sure this is not for the guy who needs to run multiple air tools constantly, but it works great for me and sure beats pumping up tires manually or with a little electric pump I have to drag from wheel to wheel.

Compre la versión que incluía la manguera y los accesorios; de estos la calidad si estan un poco bajos pero tampoco que sean malos. Por otro lado la manguera si se ve resistente y de calidad.

The value was exceptional! The exact unit was twice the price at Home Depot and without the accessory kit! Great little compressor and great price! I am a little late in writing my review, but that being said I am a contractor and I have been using it for 2 years now and it still works like new. It doesn’t look like new, but it is very reliable!

The compressor arrived in good shape and it worked very well to quickly inflate tires on several vehicles to 35-40 psi. It was more difficult to inflate larger tires to 60 or 80 psi. It only seemed to work real well if the pump was actually running as opposed to running off only the tank. Guess I need to set the output gauge to a higher pressure. I have only used the compressor 3 times...so far so good.

Very happy with this item. The compressor is quite light and pumps up to over 125 PSI which means that it is not recycling as often. The compressor, together with it's accessory package cannot be surpassed at this price point ($100.00 CDN). Additionally, it is Porter Cable, a name that I trust. Thank you Amazon.ca! You continue to impress.
