Honda VFR800 V-FOURS 1997-2001 (Haynes Manuals)
The book arrived very quickly from the seller way ahead of the projected ETA, the book was new but there is a slight binding problem(Front cover can unglued from the inner binding) I restored that easily myself. the Hardcover book has different kind of paper for the pages those with color diagrams and pictures at the beginning of the book and that wiring diagrams and the latter sections of the manual differ from the main sections which describe the repair procedures. I had been thinking to purchase this manual as a supplement to the Honda Service Manual(factory Manual) for the VFR 800. I am currently in the middle of a complex repair of my VFR(Replacing the transmission countershaft)with the factory manual. I know that there are a choice of 3 manuals specific to this motorcycle the factory being one of them. the Haynes manual is a good source for those who are in need of knowing maintenance procedures and repair procedures for this machine. The Haynes manual covers all the areas the rider/owner needs know to understand the how to service this machine that being said I refer firstly to the factory manual as all of the diagrams in the Haynes are copied from that manual. What the Haynes has that the factory manual lacks are the photo's of the procedures being detailed along with the occasional "Tips" provided. This feature made me choose the Haynes to supplement the factory manual. Case in point in the factory manual there is a diagram showing the assembling of the countershaft/output shaft on the transmission, with pictorial of the gears and washers on the shaft. The Haynes manual explains that diagram noting the order and orientation of the washers and circlips around the gear clusters along the shaft. This info is told so the shafts component will be assembled in the correct way that the factory only showed as 2 diagrams. In summery If you do our own work or want to understand the working of the VFR then I suggest this to supplement the factory manual as a standalone it's adequate (some procedures are covered in the owner's manual) if you do not have the owner's manual the Haynes is a good replacement.Lastly the Haynes in color wiring diagrams are my preference to follow wiring over looking @ the diagram legend to decode the color codes.

Handy Reference
Good reference book. Helpful photos. One problem: much of the capacities are in metric amounts, as opposed to U.S. measures. Nothing a quick Google search can't solve.

Haynes Manual Indispensible
I've purchased many Haynes manuals over the years for all my vehicles as they clear and further detail / supplement the factory service manual.

Good manual
This manual was listed as used but looks new, the only reason it appeared used was the lack plastic wrapping. It was also nice to find that it was the hardback issue rather than the cheap paperbacks that are all too commom from Haynes now for the car manuals. As to be expected the content is excellent and covers every aspect of Hondas masterpiece. The detail is much better than most of the car manuals which are not as thorough as they once were. The model run for the Fi was only 4 years , in that time only a few changes were made to the bike so there are not lots of irrelevant chapters. And becausethis only covers the Fi it does not cover the later vtec models which is a totally different bike and engine.

Have been using Hayes for years, and this one is to the high standard.

The usual excellent standard
Haynes manuals encourage me to take on things that I've never done before. Having them as a reference is always helpful and I strongly advise them for anyone that plans on self-servicing their machine.
