An utopian commune gone wrong.
I didn't like it... and then, by the end, I almost loved it. "Foxlowe" is a short but traumatic read about communes and cults and what is happening so close to home...Eerie old mansion full of dogs (and goats) - tickCult/Commune with drug abuse - tickComing of age romance - tickBrainwashing and a lot of drinking - tickLeavers and death - tickAnd resurrection - ?It is an unsettling read, especially when you let yourself think how easily traumatised the young brain can be and how easy it is to damage.

An excellent, but emotionally challenging book
This is an excellently written book based on an incredibly well thought concept. Whilst I was absolutely invested in it, ultimately it was just too much of an emotionally challenging read for it to be enjoyable. The level of abuse mentioned was more than I had initially expected. Ultimately it’s a book that will stay with me for a long time.

Dreadful book
I agree with another reviewer that the start of the book was confusing and irritating and unfortunately this does not change. I hate to not finish a book but I have to admit I found this book dreadful to read and found myself skimming over whole pages desperate to get to the end, then once I had wishing I really hadn't bothered. Sorry to say I do not recommend.

This book lead to the most vociferous book group evening ...
This book lead to the most vociferous book group evening for a year! I would have given it four stars but for the very unpleasant sadism towards the children.

Great story.
This is a compelling and at times unnerving tale centred on a genuine desire to create a better life that misfires badly. Lord of the Rings meets late millennium drop out society. A great holiday read and my mind keeps returning to parts of the plot so will need to join a book club to discuss further. A good sign.

Disturbing and addictive
Will remember the characters in this story for a long time. Powerful and subtle in its writing, and the author doesn't judge, which makes the whole thing more real and awful and affecting.

Picked it up on a friend's recommendation and I was surprised how great it was. Awesome book with and ending that stays with you. Couldn't recommend enough.

Brilliant. Loved the story and characters.
Excellent book, worth reading. It's different, well written and not predictable. Highly recommend. It's been a while since I've read something where I'm thinking about it when not reading it.
