About the Author Allison Jewell lives in Southern Kentucky with her husband, two sons, and dog. When she isn't hard at work on her next novel, she can be found doing one of her favorite things: watching her older son chase the puck at the local hockey rink, hanging out at home listening to records with her husband, or making up silly songs with her younger son. Allison was an elementary school teacher and education consultant before becoming a writer. Allison is author of the Shine On series. The reading order of the Shine On Series is listed below. So-so
I finished the book but never really cared that much about any of the characters, Emmie the main character was okay but seemed to be either meek and submissive or belligerent with not much in between. Silas her love interest was a nasty piece of work and despite Emmie witnessing his violence several times she still seemed to think the sun shone through him (I was rooting for her to fall for Bo, a minor character but much nicer seeming). Ava her BFF was hard to warm to as well, she seemed very manipulative and superficial in her friendship. The doctoring of the 'shine was highly implausible too - Emmie got the idea from the cooking of apple sauce that Ava had added some to, but cooking it would evaporate any alcohol content. She also was supposed to be on a tight budget but was able to cook up enough apples and presumably sugar and spices to add to all the bottles, in an extremely short space of time without any prior knowledge of how to do it. This is book 1 of a series, I won't be ordering book 2.

Shine On
Bring on book 2! This book was captivating from page 1 and I am so pleased to see that the follow up has been released. The characters were brought to life wonderfully, and I can't wait to find out how the Emmie and Silas relationship progresses

Could have been written in half the time
Not bad a read, bit long in the telling, but apart from that not bad.

Really tried
but couldnt get interested enough in the subject matter, despite the authors obvious expertise in it. Just a bit lacking in read-on-ability...never finished and now put in my archives.
