No Flow Arrow on Side of Filter
SAWYER: FIX YOUR MOLD AND CAST AN ARROW INDICATING FLOW ONTO THE OUTSIDE OF THE FILTER BODY! C'mon Sawyer, I know you think this thing is intuitive -- how could anyone not know which way the filter flows? Even your help videos show arrows on filters, but this filter doesn't have any arrows on it. That aside, seems good and has good flow using a gravity setup.

My new favorite filtration kit
I had read that the included squeeze bags aren't that great and can break easily, so I swapped it out for a Dunkive 2L squeeze bag instead. The flow feels pretty good. With this combo, I can realistically filter about 70oz in about 2 minutes. The filter and bag together weigh only about 5 or 6oz and packs down tiny. Filters faster and is a much lighter, smaller package than the Grayl and MSR filters I've used. Will have to see how it performs in the field, but I'm happy so far. Update July 2026: This filter works well but caring for it is tedious. There's is a fine line between it filtering well or nearly not at all, and that line is determined by how well it is prepped before use and flushed after use. I used this filter in the fall 2025 to filter some lake water that wasn't muddy or silty. I flushed the filter with tap water after use and dried thoroughly before storage. Fast forward to a multi-day backpacking trip this summer and the filter would hardly filter any water at all. No matter how hard I squeezed, I could only get a few drops out of it. After waiting a day, it seemed to work a little better but still very restricted. I ended up using it in a gravity fed configuration to filter water over time while I went and did other things. 5 of us on the trip had these filters and 3 of us experienced this issue. Lessons learned: After returning home and doing some research, I ended up soaking the filter in warm vinegar for 30 minutes to breakup any buildup. I then used a smart water bottle and the sp150 coupler to forcefully flush the filter with distilled water. Online resources said flushing with tap water could clog the filter with mineral deposits. A lot of debris came out, but seemed to clear up after using about 2L of water and was flowing normally again. Further research seemed to indicate that these filters need to be soaked in water to properly activate the filter fibers before use. If I do all these things perfectly, hopefully the filter will continue working for many more years!

Perfect for hiking and camping
I originally bought this for long hikes that I take on a camping trip each year. I've used it on those hikes and it's wonderful and lightweight easy to use. Honestly though I use it more often when I'm mountain biking on local trails. It means I don't have to carry as much water with me because I'm able to filter water as I go and this is much lighter than carrying water

Small filter, convenient to use, kinda slow.
I have used this filter on multiple backpacking trips including a 12 day trek. I like how small and lightweight it is. I had previously been using a Sawyer mini and I prefer this one. Having threads on both sides it a gamechanger. I docked this filter one star because the flow rate. I was filtering water next to a friend with a normal Sawyer squeeze and he was done in half the time. In hindsight, the weight savings is probably not worth spending an extra 5 minutes squeezing a water bag. If you are super ultralight, maybe it is. I ditched the included bag and picked up a CNOC 2L vecto. You should do the same. You can also ditch the syringe and purge using clean water from your bottle or bag.

Does the job
Has good flow and doesn't take forever to get a drink, unlike the smaller sized one. Great product

Great, did the job
This has been our favorite filter yet. Our friends used ours the whole trip because it works much more smoothly. Squeeze the blue bag to create the force, and it comes quickly through the filter (good flow).. Glad we replaced our other with this one.

The actual filter is the only thing good about this
I brought one of these while hiking the JMT to filter water for both me and my wife. First of all the squeeze bag started leaking near the spout on the second day of our trip. Luckily we each had brought smart water bottles, so I was able to still attach the filter straight to my bottle. It was still great as a quick and light alterative to using a pump. However, like many people have pointed out, the O rings are pretty cheap quality and crazy easy to lose. They often wouldn't seal right, causing water to drip on us, which was a major bummer when you were drinking to get some during a frigid night in the tent. You have to be VERY careful while unscrewing the filter, as the O rings pop out easily and could easily fall into a river. It makes no sense why they wouldn't provide a few extra O rings. The water bottle cap that comes with it is also shockingly low quality, letting in air bubbles, and developing teeth marks instantly. Over time, it would become very hard to drink out of. It's exhausting to drink out of a sippy straw when you are also trying to climb a mountain. Idk, I haven't tried a lot of other types of filters, and I did like how light and compact it is, but I must say, I wasn't as impressed as I had hoped.

Great system but the Squeeze bag is completely unreliable
I used this on a recent 17 day hike in outback Australia. The filtration system itself worked really well but the squeeze bag failed at the seams around the nozzle on the first use. I tried to do repairs on the track with some tape but it was not salvageable. Unless the squeeze bag is upgraded to something useable and reliable, it would be better not to include this at all in the package.

Tiny Size, Mighty Performance! The Sawyer Micro Water Filter is a Lifesaver! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Sawyer Micro Water Filter is an absolute essential for anyone who spends time outdoors, travels, or wants reliable access to clean drinking water in any situation. Don't let its incredibly compact size fool you – this little filter packs a serious punch! What impressed me most is its unbelievable portability. It's so lightweight and small, it barely takes up any space in my backpack, emergency kit, or even a daypack. This makes it an absolute no-brainer to bring along on hikes, camping trips, and international adventures where water quality might be questionable. Despite its size, the Sawyer Micro boasts impressive filtration capabilities. Knowing that it effectively removes 99.99999% of all bacteria and 99.9999% of all protozoa gives me immense peace of mind when sourcing water from natural sources. It's incredibly easy to use – simply attach it to a water bottle, hydration pack, or use the included drinking pouch. You can even drink directly from a water source using the straw attachment. The durability and longevity of this filter are also outstanding. With proper backflushing (which is a simple process), it's rated to filter up to 100,000 gallons of water! That's an incredible lifespan and makes it an incredibly cost-effective solution in the long run. Whether you're a seasoned backpacker, a casual hiker, preparing an emergency kit, or traveling to areas with unreliable water sources, the Sawyer Micro Water Filter is an indispensable piece of gear. It's reliable, easy to use, incredibly portable, and provides the vital assurance of safe drinking water. I wouldn't head into the backcountry without it!
