Classic Word Games (Nintendo DS)

I expected, from the description on the box, to be able to choose and play one of a variety of classic word games but no! The capsule contains a set of exercises rather in brain-training mode through which you have to work in order. The level is quite challenging but the creators get their apostrophes wrong on occasion. Some of the idioms are a type of (pseudo-American?) slang that I simply do not need to know and the quotations are randomly chosen and sometimes seem pointless. It then tries to take me through my mistakes. I still have not reached crosswords or word-finding games and am tempted to take it to the charity shop! But if the format is what you want there is some fun to be had from it.

I purchased this game for my 8 year old and 5 year old to help them with their words and have fun whilst doing so. I also thought whilst we're on holiday I'd quite like to play with it too. Well, I tried it out and 'oh my god' not being funny but this is not a game for young children so why it's rated 3+ I don't know. I could hardly do it myself and I'm not thick!!! The words used are much too extensive in vocabulary for children and even most adults. I would definitely NOT recommend to anyone. The older generation who want to test their word knowledge then fine, but this should be clearer in the packaging. For me it was a complete waste of money as they most definitely can not play it.

I have always loved playing word searches,hangman and other games. Getting the paper variety was always time consuming and had loads of puzzles I was never interested in. This Classic Word Games for my DS is great for keeping both me and my mum happy enjoying doing the puzzles. It's even got my daughter playing them to. The more times you play the more new games you unlock is great fun. My daughter and myself are always trying to beat each others scores and see who can unlock the most new games. Bought this DS game a few days ago and thought it would be a straightforward game but when I played it found I was constantly being annoyed by a person telling me how I was getting on and my progress. I don't want to be patronised by anyone, I just want to be able to play the games I want to play and that is all. I definitely don't need someone telling me how I'm getting on - I can see that for myself.

After buying this for a friend, I was actually lead to believe that it would be a game with classic word games such as hangman/wordsearch etc.It starts off more like a brain game, and you have to complete several games before you unlock the games such as hangman and wordsearch. Hence to say once the novelty of the new game wore off it has been on the shelf gathering dust.
