Junie B. Jones #19: Boss of Lunch

Granddaughters birthday gift. Asked always encouraged to read about Junie B

As with the other Junie B Jones books, this one was much loved by my early reader who enjoys reading it herself as well as listening to it as a read aloud

Barbara Park knew how to capture the funny, innocent, social awkwardness of being young. Junie B is every parent's nightmare. She is not a naughty child. She is simply learning how to navigate in a big world full of unwritten rules about what a first grader should and shouldn't say and do. The story is simple and well written. The vocabulary is great for an early reader. I have to admit I am not fond of Junie's tart little sayings at times. I do not allow my kids to use words like "stupid" which are thrown around liberally in the book. I have made clear to my kids they can read Junie B, but if I ever hear Junie B-ish words coming from their mouths, Junie B will find herself at the half price bookstore on the corner.

All the Junie B.Jones books were for my granddaughter. She already had some and was very excited to get the rest of them. I, personally, wished the author used more correct English to get her message across. Children learn by example and using incorrect language (i.e. using me instead of I) makes it harder for children to learn early on what is correct.

This book series is a high interest, medium reading level comprehension and great for primary school children. The book catches a child's attention immediately because of the illustration on the front cover. The back cover gives a concise, but good description of what is inside. Our granddaughters have enjoyed the "Junie B." books and request them both at the library and in book stores and on Amazon. I recommend this to any child, parent, family member, friend or teacher who is trying to find a book that will hold a child's attention and be fun while improvimng the child's reading comprehension skills and encouraging the love of reading. "Some" decoding skills are needed if your child is a struggling reader but your task of assisting your child will be less difficult with the Junie B. series.

i’m not sure why these books are banned. i grew up on Junie B.! She corrects her mistakes in her journal writings. my 5 year old loves for me to read them to her. If anything these books teach kids how to behave. When the teacher or parents tell junie b how she should be acting.. i never had read this one growing up but now i have the WHOLE series so my daughter will be able to love her just as much as me

I have been reading these books since I was a teacher in elementary school, and I love them as much as my daughter. Junie B is always hilarious. This story was fun and comical per usual. My daughter and I always crack up at her shenanigans.
