Very light weight easy care bell tent
Light enough for one person to carry at about 14kg. Would easily fit in a car boot. Uses 100g synthetic Oxford weave tent material. Looks like canvas from a distance, but has the feel and look of a tent made from synthetic material, close up. The ground sheet is a similar material. (Not bell tent extra thick PVC), but a lightweight material. So it’s made of your usual average tent material overall, (not cotton or canvas - this would double the weight to about 30kg). Perfectly adequate for camping. Especially if lifting is a problem for you.Goes up really fast about 20minutes, (no carbon poles to thread through fiddly little channels). Just spread out the ground sheet into a circle. Peg it down. Open the zips and climb inside. Unfold the spring loaded centre pole and poke it in the centre of the canvas. Lift it up basically. I did this on my own and I’m a 59 year old woman with a hernia. So anyone could do this. (A poly cotton or canvas version requires 1-2 strong people to do this lifting). Then put the A frame door bit in - the legs on this one are adjustable making it easy to fit. I’ve put up other versions, without adjustable legs, that have been a really difficult and tight fit. The poles all rest on reenforced materials. You can see the square to put the centre pole on, easily, it also marks the middle of the tent. (Which other bell tents don’t have). You just need to finish by pegging out the guy ropes. And securing the little rubber cone above the door. To stop the drips. The poles are not as thick as normal bell tent poles, but seem adequate for the weight of materials. (Probably not up to the storm we experienced in our heavy weight canvas bell tent). But perfectly adequate for festivals, campsites in the UK summer. Barring the extreme weather that would destroy most tents anyway.Probably needs more ventilation than a canvas tent, open the zips on mesh windows and doors to achieve this. There are inner pockets for storing your little important items. Like glasses etc. (there is a hook and loops for hanging an inner tent. It is sometimes available from Canvas tent shop. The inner would help organise your space, keep you warmer at night, and does come in blackout, which I’d love to get).As a bell tent it is a great alternative to the heavy canvas glamping ones. It’s a large, bright, easy to see everything, single space tent, with loads of headroom for 6 foot tall lads. You can fit 2 double mattresses in this or 4 singles easily, in the 4m one and still have room for bags etc. It is easy care, you are advised to pack down dry, or air and dry immediately you get home, if you are forced to pack down wet. Because it’s light weight, it’s easy to drape over the bannisters or something to dry. This is the same advice for all tents. (For those that don’t know, canvas tents are heavy when wet and a nightmare to dry, they have to be packed bone dry and stored bone dry, or they get mould and rot). This material is waterproof and rot proof. You could store it in a garage or shed. It will grow mould if you are careless but at least it won’t rot. So if you are inexperienced, or maybe not as careful with tents as you should be, this IS the tent for you! If you know you won’t do the tent care, then get this one. Don’t kid yourself and waste money on a canvas job.I really like this tent. I can see us using it a lot.I may get the footprint and inner to be sure. It is a good replacement for our family tunnel tent for 4-6 people which we used every year, until the materials failed after 15 years of use. Which was a similar weight and pack size. The bell tent is so much simpler to put up. Such a classic shelter designed around 1 pole. The zips and everything look good quality. With chunky guy ropes and decent pegs. You can unzip the groundsheet on this and roll up the sides. Oh and there’s a big roomy bag to put it all in, which makes packing easy too. You can fit it in the bag, even if it’s wet and not folded up tight. Which is another plus!
