Useless!
I've had a few different IR cat repellers and, to be honest, none of them are exactly great. This one, however, is just pathetic.First you want to charge the batteries. Unfortunately it will only trickle charge from the mains adapter. I gave up after 48 hours of charging and removed the batteries to charge. As with most other models, the batteries are a very poor capacity. If you were to swap them for some decent ones, you'd have to wait a week for a charge using the adapter. There are no controls on this device. Not necessarily a bad thing as the knobs on others allow moisture in and they fail after a year or two. This just has an on/off switch behind a rubber diaphragm, making it moderately weatherproof. However, the sensitivity is way too high. During the day, the sun shining on anything within 20 feet of the device will set it off. Blades of grass or leaves waving in the wind, heat shimmer, etc. It just spends all day triggering. Which flattens the batteries in no time.So I thought I'd be clever and switch it on only at night. Maybe the solar cell can charge the battery during the day. Imagine my dismay when I watched a cat walk past this device in the dark and it completely failed to trigger. The one thing it is supposed to be sensitive to, it isn't!If you want an IR cat scarer, get another brand, these are useless.

Sensor deters cats, but vulnerable to sustained bad weather
So the sensor does work and cats leave my garden alone. However, with the awful weather in the UK I have realized that one of the sensors I bought seems to be malfunctioning due to water seeping into the device and it has rendered it almost useless. I will note that it happened after 2-3 months off poor weather so it held out for a while for transparency. There does not seem to be a way to get water out of the sensor without taking the whole thing apart.Overall, it works but you will probably have to add something like tape to cover the slits between parts to avoid water damage to the device, especially if the weather is bad for a sustained amount of time.

Does not work with all cats as one of mine walks straight past it and completely ignore it!
I have four cats. Two of them regularly do a Houdini over a very tall fence and I wanted to deter them from the adjacent road so bought two of these. For one cat it works a treat as she hears it and scuttles back towards the house - the other one sniffs it, ignores it and walks straight past it into the area next to the road.So I can’t give it more stars. It does say it can take a while for full effect but this particular cat is oblivious and undeterred. She’s not deaf - hears a food dish at 1/4 mile away but we’ve tried everything to stop her short of electric fencing.Maybe that’s next!

Cat Repellent Work's Brilliant
Tried many things to stop the cat on my front lawn. Nothing works but this device is brilliant. It works as described. The cat always enter into my drive way everytime, after I fixed this device the cat was stopped entering which means it really work's.

Initially very good but...l.
Like most things ‘electronic’ and used outside, they seem to start off okay but after a few months something fails!Installing the unit did have an immediate effect, but after about about 3 months the cats returned to wreak vengeance on my gravel drive and grass areas. I don’t thing there is any one solution, and was disappointed with this item. Returned the unit when it failed to even make a noise.

Seems to work well
Seems to work well protecting a large gravel area behind my shed. Since installation, zero evidence of cat fouling.

Does not work as a cat deterrent. Waste of money
Thought it worked at first as the cctv recorded the cat startled for the first time when it walk past the device in the garden. Another cat walks behind it now to avoid triggering it. I’ve walked past it and see the red as light showing it detected my movement so the motion detection works.Only had it under 2 weeks so will check and provide update later on weatherproof and water resistance of this device.Update: useless cat deterrent. Cats are back and walk past or straight into the device. Does not work so waste of money. Not fit for purpose. Wonder if can get money back if it does not meet its attended purpose?
