I've never bought any super expensive rods, but this feels better than every rod I've ever used and is on the cheaper side of my collection.

I have been using lightning rods since the mid 2000's. I feel like they are the best value rod you can buy under $100. I am tough on rods and just can't bring myself to pay a few hundred for a Loomis or Fenwick. My original lightning rod fell victim to the screen door a few years ago, but has since been replaced with a newer version. This is the first casting version I bought because I wanted a set up for guests when they come to our bass pond. I paired it with a Pflueger push-button reel and it is an impressive combo. It casts forever and feels great with a largemouth on the other end. Long story short, this isn't my first lightning rod and it definitely won't be my last lightning rod.

I have a whole array of high end rods. I am more interested now in finding cheap light rods that are a great value. These can't be beat for the price. The guides, FULL CORK handle and blank are high quality. All guides are straight and the bigger guides have 4 feet vs 1 spinning rod type. I prefer this rod over my medium St Croix Premier which is too stiff. This one has a very fast tip, excellent backbone and is not tip heavy. I would recommend 3 of these rods to my 1 St Croix. It's a no brainer and I tried a lot of "value" rods. The rod says it is a composite blank, but it feels like a graphite to me.

If you purchase a Berkley Lightning Rod, you will probably never buy another brand. It's inexpensive, sensitive and strong like bull.
