An informative (yet opinionated) guide to pizza around Chicago
Local food critic shares his opinion on the best (and not so best) pizzas around Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. He covers deep dish, to thin tavern style, to Neapolitan, and everything in between. It's a great starter guide; however, as time goes by, opinions may change and entries become obsolete.

Unexpected
Didn't keep our thought it would be both informative and provide recipes. I wanted recipes, when it didn't provide. If you want the history of Chicago pizza then you'll like it.

Good pictures, but mostly a garbage book
I kind of got this book because it pisssed off Piece Pizzera a bit and sometimes they need to be taken down a peg (though they do make great pizza). However, after looking through the book, Steve has no idea what he is talking about. He breaks down pizza into different categories and then repeats the same places a couple of times. As expected Piece did not make the list, but based on some of the places he picked, that was done to be vindictive, not because he doesn’t like their pizza. He put Jett’s on the list. A freakin chain!!!Speaking of Jett’s, the page right after his glowing review talk about how the “deep dish houses” downtown are overrated and don’t care about their craft. Has he been to Jett’s? They don’t care. Their main competition is Little Caesar’s. I actually like Jett’s occasionally, but to put it in the same level as local and family owned businesses makes him lose all his credibility. Also, who is this book written for? Suburbanites scared that if they enter into the city, they are going to get shot? Why not pick more obscure and far away suburbs? I was surprised not to see Rockford on the list.I really wanted to give this book a chance. However, it has come to me that the Hungry Hound really is a hack. The pictures are great, but the reviews are garbage.Use Yelp instead

Great for a Chicago native!
Absolutely LOVE this book! I've lived in Chicago my whole life and have tried what I thought was a good amount of pizza places around the city... I was woefully wrong. This book has great reviews of places I'd never even heard of that I've now tried and love! Couldn't recommend this more for anyone who loves pizza! Great as a gift for a Chicago pizza lover too!

Absolutely Terrific!
This is a fantastic book and a must-read for anyone who enjoys pizza and wants to learn all about the different styles. I always thought Chicago was just a deep-dish town, but Steve brilliantly debunks that myth. I cannot wait for my next trip to Chicago and try some of these suggested places.
