Silver Linings: Introduction to Silverpoint Drawing

but thus far it is the best I have found
Material list was a huge assistance. While the actual how to do left a lot of questions, but thus far it is the best I have found. This is not a #1 art form and much has been lost in teaching of this medium in recent years. I am learning.

Perfect novice's guide
This book is an excellent tutorial on a medium that is rarely used. She explains tools, techniques, and how to incorporate silverpoint into mixed media. Examples of work by different artists are featured, including their artist's statements. I found her information concise and clear. And I especially like that the silverpoint ground that she uses in based on natural, organic substances and not acrylics, which I do not want to use any more than I wished to make rabbit skin glue. As a novice in this medium, I found that Banjie gave me all the information I needed, plus a resource list. This book is short but sweet and will be the first reference i suggest to other grad students and fellow artists.

Slightly Useful But Really Disappointing
Save your money. I own 12 books on the topic of silverpoint and am a professional artist with 25 years of experience. The book is not worth the money. There is surprisingly little useful information in it. In fact, the useful tips could have been reduced to fit on 1 page. Many of the points are in fact common sense observations that any practicing artist would likely have observed already. There are some nice things about the book which is why I gave it 2 stars rather than 1. There are some resources for materials listed in the back. But anyone with a computer could simply google silverpoint materials and arrive at the same sites. There are some nice pictures in the book...So that's useful. And there is some discussion of grounds. But the author flakes out in giving precise details on how to formulate them, saying that the reader must experiment to get it right. She also says she does not understand chemistry and cannot explain certain things about grounds and silverpoint. Why write a book about it then? You can find out more in 5 minutes by phoning George O'Hanlon at Natural Pigments and asking him, a chemist, than you can from this book. It is painfully basic. That's it. But if you need basic, it will do.

Great help
This book was a great help to me as I started learning about a new medium in my artsy life. I wanted to try to learn about metalpoint drawing and this book gave me some good insights into how to do this old, interesting medium. I learned about different metal points, the ground necessary for this medium and how to use them.

First time this happened
Book arrived in a very timely manner....when I opened the package I noticed that the bottom of the book was completely cut off ..very strange....someone had cut through the entire book from front to back .??? The inside was not affected by the cutting ...good book otherwise....If it was written up this way whoo is me IF NOT you need to be more specific......

An excellent introduction to silverpoint.
This is an excellent introduction to silverpoint. The author gives you enough information to get started, encourages experimentation and shows you how other modern artists are using it (which is why I bought it).I’m a retired person learning to draw. I don’t have time for academic discussions or scientific analysis. I’m sure there are many other books that can provide that level of information. I just want to try something different.Additionally, there are a number of resources available online for amateur art historians to pursue but not many on how to actually set yourself up to use silverpoint. This brief but very informative book in my opinion fills that gap.
