Bob Marley: Spirit Dancer

Pocket-size collector's edition.
Nice collector's item. What you might call a pocket-size coffee table edition, if that makes sense. It's small enough you could literally carry it in your pocket. Filled with nice shots of Bob, some enlightening exposition by Roger Steffens (#8 Most Influential Person in Reggae, as selected by the Jamaica Observer). More a quick study and source of inspiration than an in-depth study. Makes a nice gift for the Marley fan. Wait - this is a book? Complete Rip-Off
Well, for the price, I can safely say this is a complete waste of money. I've bought hard cover autobiographies on Amazon for less. The 'book' is the size of a CD booklet, with 160 'pages'. This book was rated because of all the photos included, but who wants to see pictures in a 'book'that small? I'm sorry I took it out of the package because of curiousity. I should have read the reviews in more detail. In addition to all the pictures, the actual words are written so big that I wondered if it was meant for 10 year olds. I'm sure if this was converted to the size of a real book, there wouldnt even be 30 full pages. Complete RIP-OFF!There is not much to this 'book' and if you want to read about Bob Marley, this book has nothing for you. I can't even bring myself to read it, I just get angry every time I look at it.

Great photography book a must for all Bob Marley fans
This book is all about the behind the scenes life of Bob Marley. Very little reading involved but very interesting pictures of Bob Marley's life. It shows that he was a down to earth prophet (imo) that loved life and the people around him. The quality of the pictures is top notch and really catch the moment.

Inspiration
Bob Marley is a legend, we all know that. As one African American, he had the power to change an entire country that was in the middle of a major dispute. I knew this information previously to reading this book. However, I didn't know nearly as much as I do now. I'm not going to give any information from the book, you can read it on your own, but I will tell you that for the small amount of pages this book has, there is still a ton of very good information and insight into Marley's life. As with any biographies, there is some slow and boring parts, but these do not even scratch the surface on the rest of this amazing book. The pictures at the end are just as inspirational and enlightening as the text itself and just put the icing on the cake for this book. The price for this book on Amazon seems pretty high, fortunately I checked it out from my school library. I wouldn't say it's worth the price, but I would definitely recommend picking it up somewhere if you are a fan of Bob Marley or even if you just want to learn about a truly amazing human being. R.I.P Bob Marley.

More like album liner notes than a real book
I purchased this book for our high school library hoping to have at least one good introduction to Bob Marley for our students. While it will do the job, it's more of a photo-essay from the last two years of his life, accompanied by a biographical article that reads more like album liner notes.I was hoping for more description of the music, how it evolved, what it's about and how it was received. I was hoping for a more detailed chronology of his life, not just a recitation of names and events.Having said that, this book is better than nothing to get our readers interested in Marley. It'll do.

One Of My Favorite Biographies
One of the most surprising things you'd expect out of me, a 15 year old skate punk kid, is my collection of books. Big and small, short and long, all of my books are spanned on a shelf system that runs around my room. An those are just the good ones. The really good ones go in my night table drawer. This is one of them. Bob Marley is and was one of the most inflential people not only in my life, but in many others as well. This book not only shows that, it also shows the feels and vibes of Caribbean life during his time. It richly illustrates reggae in general, racial boundaries, and social problems of Marley's time. It is a vividly painted portrait of one of the greatest musicians of our time. With facts from his birth to his death and everything that happened to him in between, it helps you (the reader) to fully understand this great person. Bob Marley was truly influential, and this book illustrates that fact completely. You will read it over and over and over again.
