GREAT quality!
I used to buy D-Ribose several kilo's at a time from another seller here on Amazon but for some reason they haven't been answering their phones nor emails. Reluctantly I switched to BulkSupplements - and I'm SOLD. The price is far superior and the product itself is on par or slightly better. I WISH it was sold in canisters like the other seller but I just transfer this powder to clean canning jars with a pour top lid that I've added myself and we're good to go. In fact, in some ways it's more convenient now since I just eye a quantity to pour into our Blender Bottles and no longer need to use the scoop to measure. We initially discovered D-Ribose as part of Cardiologist Dr. Stephen Sinatra's Awesome Foursome (magnesium, l-carnitine, CoQ10/Ubiquional and d-ribose) for reversing end stage heart failure. When we began this journey in March 2008 my husband was given a prognosis of "dead within 2 weeks, probably a few days." We've made it seven whole years to 2015 and he's never been hospitalized due to Congestive Heart Failure in these last 7 years. In fact he's currently rebounding from pnuemonia last week and this week he's acting like he's not been sick in ages. Ribose is definitely something we keep available, it's a wonder powder for energy in our home! I've included information for further reading below...Jeri~~~~~~~~~~~~~Abstracts of several articles we found on Medline:Eur J Heart Fail. 2003 Oct;5(5):615-9.D-Ribose improves diastolic function and quality of life in congestive heart failure patients: a prospective feasibility study.Omran H, Illien S, MacCarter D, St Cyr J, Lüderitz B.Department of Medicine-Cardiology, University of Bonn, Sigmund-Freud-Street 25, D-53105, Bonn, Germany. [email protected] with chronic coronary heart disease often suffer from congestive heart failure (CHF) despite multiple drug therapies. D-Ribose has been shown in animal models to improve cardiac energy metabolism and function following ischaemia. This was a prospective, double blind, randomized, crossover design study, to assess the effect of oral D-ribose supplementation on cardiac hemodynamics and quality of life in 15 patients with chronic coronary artery disease and CHF. The study consisted of two treatment periods of 3 weeks, during which either oral D-ribose or placebo was administered followed by a 1-week wash out period, and then administration of the other supplement. Assessment of myocardial functional parameters by echocardiography, quality of life using the SF-36 questionnaire and functional capacity using cycle ergometer testing was performed. The administration of D-ribose resulted in an enhancement of atrial contribution to left ventricular filling (40+/-11 vs. 45+/-9%, P=0.02), a smaller left atrial dimension (54+/-20 vs. 47+/-18 ml, P=0.02) and a shortened E wave deceleration (235+/-64 vs. 196+/-42, P=0.002) by echocardiography. Further, D-ribose also demonstrated a significant improvement of the patient's quality of life (417+/-118 vs. 467+/-128, P< or =0.01). In comparison, placebo did not result in any significant echocardiographic changes or in quality of life. This feasibility study in patients with coronary artery disease in CHF revealed the beneficial effects of D-ribose by improving diastolic functional parameters and enhancing quality of life.J Cardiovasc Pharmacol Ther. 2000 Oct;5(4):249-58.D-Ribose as a supplement for cardiac energy metabolism.Pauly DF, Pepine CJ.Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Department of Medicine, University of Florida College of Medicine, Gainesville, FL 32610, USA.Metabolic support for the heart has been an attractive concept since the pioneering work of Sodi-Pallares et al. four decades ago.* Recently, interest has increased in the use of over-the-counter supplements and naturally occurring nutriceuticals for enhancement of cardiac and skeletal muscle performance. These include amino acids such as creatine, L-carnitine, and L-arginine, as well as vitamins and cofactors such as alpha-tocopherol and coenzyme Q. Like these other molecules, D-ribose is a naturally occurring compound. It is the sugar moiety of ATP and has also received interest as a metabolic supplement for the heart. The general hypothesis is that under certain pathologic cardiac conditions, nucleotides (particularly ATP, ADP, and AMP) are degraded and lost from the heart. The heart's ability to resynthesize ATP is then limited by the supply of D-ribose, which is a necessary component of the adenine nucleotide structure. In support of this hypothesis, recent reports have used D-ribose to increase tolerance to myocardial ischemia. Its use in patients with stable coronary artery disease improves time to exercise-induced angina and electrocardiographic changes. In conjunction with thallium imaging or dobutamine stress echocardiography, D-ribose supplementation has been used to enhance detection of hibernating myocardium. In this article, we review the biochemical basis for using supplemental D-ribose as metabolic support for the heart and discuss the experimental evidence for its benefit.Int J Cardiol. 2008 Mar 28;125(1):49-56. Epub 2007 Apr 16.D-ribose improves cardiac contractility and hemodynamics, and reduces expression of c-fos in the hippocampus during sustained slow ventricular tachycardia in rats.Schneider HJ, Rossner S, Pfeiffer D, Hagendorff A.Medizinische Klinik und Poliklinik II, Universitätsklinikum Regensburg, Franz-Joseph-Strauss Allee 11, 93053 Regensburg, Deutschland, Germany. [email protected]: Moderate hypotension during hemodynamically stable ventricular tachycardia (VT), leads to cerebral ischemia. Supplementation of d-ribose has been shown to improve cardiac metabolism. We hypothesized that cerebral ischemia during slow VT may lead to the expression of immediate early genes related to neurodegeneration. This expression may be prevented by d-ribose substitution. METHODS: Slow VT was induced over 20 min by external left ventricular pacing after infusion of physiologic saline or d-ribose (450 mg/kg) in 44 rats. Different coloured microspheres were used for tissue blood flow measurements. Histochemistry of c-fos in cerebral tissue sections was performed. RESULTS: With the onset of VT, the mean arterial pressure (MAP) significantly dropped in both groups. However, the MAP in the d-ribose group was significantly higher (p<0.05) than in the control group (111+/-21 mm Hg vs. 80+/-40 mm Hg). The rate pressure product (RPP) during VT was significantly higher in the d-ribose group than in the control group (75,000 vs. 59,000, p<0.05). The occurrence of lethal VT was significantly higher in the control group and could be prevented by d-ribose. A stable activation of c-fos was observed in the control group. This ischemic stress response of the brain could not be seen after d-ribose infusion. CONCLUSION: d-ribose improves hemodynamic parameters, cardiac contractility and prevents the activation of pro-apoptotic c-fos, demonstrating a neuroprotective effect of d-ribose during slow VT.

A Life-Changer
I did some research and read that anyone who is active, into sports, stressed, over 50 or dealing with a chronic illness could benefit from using d-ribose. I used to be athletic but got sick over a year and a half ago and haven't been well since. Some doctors toss around the diagnosis of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, but who knows.Taking d-ribose was not an instant fix, but within a week I started feeling a little bit better--that alone is HUGE! When research mentioned a larger dosage I asked my Naturopathic Physician (ND) and when she said OK, I upped the amount and slowly but surely the lows stopped being SO low and the highs were happening more and more! I'm feeling almost OK almost all day everyday and THAT is really saying something!Whatever my problem may be, I know that doctors don't know everything, in fact, especially regarding ME/CFS, a lot of them know very little. Here's a quote from Smart Publications, (just did a random Google search using ME/CFS, Fibromyalgia and d-ribose and found this):"D-Ribose is a naturally occurring simple sugar found in all living cells. It is the fuel that mitochondria use to produce adenosine tri-phosphate (ATP), which provides the body’s cellular energy. Studies show that patients with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and congestive heart failure are low in D-Ribose."Before taking D-ribose I had more or less given up traveling or doing anything but sticking close to home where I could curl up and rest. I'm beginning to live life again and the DIFFERENCE has been the d-ribose. I can tell I'm stronger, that the times of complete exhaustion are fewer and fewer and that I feel much better much longer! In fact, I have been feeling so well that just last week I booked a flight to go visit my sister this fall. If I had not started d-ribose I never would have considered it.Not saying this is a miracle cure. So far, I'm still only up to about 50% of where I was before, but I can tell this supplement is helping my body heal itself and my life is coming back.UPDATE:I tried taking d-ribose made at a different company and experienced a crash. Whatever the other company used, it wasn't of the quality that BulkSupplements provides.I now take it twice a day and am having some days when I feel completely normal again, but that is not only due to the d-ribose, it's due to the things mentioned below, too.Other info:--I think one site said that people with diabetes or blood sugar issues need to talk to their doctor before using it because it is a simple sugar, it's just not a bad sugar. The body makes this as its currency for energy. Even so, ask your doctor about the blood sugar issues.--I purchased a small bag the first time just to see what it would do and it lasted a LONG time, but the large bag is the better deal for me now that I know how much it is helping.--D-ribose is slightly sweet, but honestly, once you mix it in you can hardly taste it at all.--it does cause a little heartburn, but maybe it doesn't do that for everyone.--Experienced no weird feelings or unusual side effects but some other sites say it isn't good to take at bedtime, since it wakes some people up. I have not experienced that.-- I’ve never ordered from Bulk Supplements before, but so far they’re fine. The product is great, the delivery time was good and the only negative I can think of is the fact that I can't re-zip the ziplock bag because the powder gets in the zip-lock runners. I don't know if it's a good idea or not to keep in in the fridge, rolled up with a clothespin on the top to close it, but I figured it couldn't hurt to refrigerate it and like I said, the bag has never closed well.--I like the fact that this company actively seeks out reviews. That says a lot about the trust they have in their products.--Some studies say to go on the d-ribose for a few weeks and then taper off, others say they take it every day with no side effects except some extra energy. Everyone needs to look into this for themselves because we're all different.(plus good sleep, NO sugar or white bread/crackers/pasta, but lots and lots of veggies, peaceful meditation and other supplements like coQ10, magnesium, fish oil, gradual exercise and yoga, etc.,) have given me a lot of my old energy back, even when the doctor told me I could not be cured. Personally, I don't believe him. Symptoms have lessened over 50% since I started this supplement and I'm thrilled, in fact, I believe one day soon it'll hit 100% and I'll be able to tell that nice young doctor he was wrong! :)
