I gave this little box to my adult daughter for Christmas and we had a great time assembling it together. We both love puzzles, and this is a super-puzzle! It's one of the few, if not the only offering from ROKR which isn't a representation of something else such as a locomotive or an antique gramophone. The design is drop-dead brilliant, and the end result is an aesthetic marvel, straight from a fairy tale. It's not "secure", since it's made of thin plywood, but works as expected with three independent gear-driven mechanisms on it. Assembly isn't trivial, but if you're halfway competent with puzzles you'll manage it. One thing we did discover, though, is that using the instructions from the (mostly pictorial) manual, the working combination numbers were each 2 numbers higher than what we'd intended. I took the time, before it was fully assembled, to watch the combination lock in action and once we discovered this, the lock works as expected with the +2 numbers. This is a beautiful object, and a magical (if challenging) puzzle. I would recommend it for anyone who likes gifts that are a bit out of the ordinary.

While this puzzle is easy to assembly, you need to be very careful when removing and joining the decorative pieces (accordian-like parts). Since they are very thin, they can break easily. Take your time. I rushed and broke a piece. Luckily, they included a spare duplicate part. The hardest part of the assembly was setting up the combination of the locking mechanism. By the way, make sure that you write down the combination. Overall, it was easy to assemble. What facinated me after assembling the puzzle is that the combination lock on it actually WORKED!

This was such a fun little project! I read most of the reviews beforehand and noted that the majority of people who successfully completed the box all said something in common: “pay close attention to the instructions.” So, that’s what I did and I think my treasure box turned out pretty awesome! I gave 4 stars only because no matter how well you construct the lid, it will shift slightly when it’s closed and locked which makes it easy to bypass the lock. But hey I was just so happy that I built the combo lock correctly and it actually works! That was super satisfying because it seemed like a lot of reviewers said their lock didn’t work or the mechanisms fell apart so I wasn’t sure how it was gonna go and at first I thought mine didn’t work until my partner realized I was turning the dial in the wrong direction lol. It’s so nice to hear and feel the lock pop when you dial in your code - you built that! I recommend using a birthday candle to lubricate most of the pieces that need it, I think it’s a little easier to handle than the small tin of wax that comes in the kit. I’m thinking of buying a light stain and brushing over it to give some dimension. Overall I’d say this is totally a worthwhile little project that will keep you busy for a day or two depending on how determined you are to finish it.

The pieces of wood are not easy to manage I broke a few because of fitting, and the gear are not easy to turn very awful puzzle.I was wrong company back there products 100 % guaranteed awesome, just take time to learn to build to over power the wood.

I got this for my best friend who is literally impossible to shop for. Like every year Christmas rolls around and he gets me the best gifts and I get him, well nothing... but this year I stumbled on these checking out Black Friday deals and had to get it. I knew he had built model airplanes as a kid. I couldn’t wait for Christmas. He loved it! Will definitely consider some of the other options from this company in the future! (Before posting I did ask what he would rate it/any complaints. The only one was the written directions could be more clear)

My son loves these wooden puzzles and he loves puzzle boxes so I thought this would be the perfect gift. It would have been but there is one piece that you have to bend in a circle to attach it and the holes seem to be a bit smaller than the cut-out to put in them and when you bend it around to put it in place, the piece is so small that it breaks. I tried to help him with it to and I was unable to get it go into place without it breaking so that piece is now in about 4 pieces which will affect how the puzzle works. Really disappointed with that because it really is a cool puzzle.

I had a lot of fun putting this together. The pieces were quality and the instructions were clear. I'm looking forward to doing more!

There are very few things wrong with this kit. It's very interesting and requires extra thinking than some of the other kits because it allows you to set your own code. Most of the pieces are fairly easy to assemble and the end product is beautiful and articulate. I've had mine for several months now and despite not having moved any of the pieces in months they still move smoothly. There are, however, some things wrong with the kit. In order to ensure that pieces move smoothly together, you're required to apply wax to all articulated pieces. Because this box relies heavily on multiple internal pieces filled with crevices, there's a lot of surface area to cover. Grooves are sometimes hard to reach and overall it's kinda difficult to rub the wax in. Another problem that I had, that may not apply to everyone is that my kit actually didn't come with the wax and I was forced to use some candles from around the house. Just something to keep in mind. The final problem has to do with the end result, while the outside is beautiful, the box itself isn't really functional. The locked compartment is too small to really hide anything (which is part of the reason I haven't opened mine in months). It's a really fun project as long as your not expecting it to be able to really protect something. It only took me about a day to make, but this isn't the first time I've made this type of project. For most people, I'd say it could very well take up several days if you haven't tried something like this before.
