Informative, but hard to read
This was a helpful background before launching into the Sermons of Job by John Calvin itself. It was helpful to be aware of where Calvin himself was conflicted at certain points. It shows how even the greatest commentator in church history could struggle like all of us in coming up with a clear understanding from a incredible, but complex book from the Old Testament. Thomas' study, however, makes for slow reading as he takes his quotes from the 1574 edition (I presume. Usually it is noted in the beginning of the book what source or edition the author uses for his quotes). Most authors these days take the time to revise quotations into modern-day use. It makes for slow agonizing reading, as a reader has to decipher the Old English style.
