Traditional Cooking of the British Isles
The book was 2nd hand. I had to glue the binding (which is okay). Couldn't believe how large and heavy the book was. I like it a lot. Not only did it have traditional food recipes, but it also had a lot of the British Isle's history printed before the recipes. Very Interesting. I feel it was a good buy.

Good cookbook
It's a good but pretty big book, the first half is all information about the places the recipes are from which is neat however if you live in the u.s alot of the ingredients need to be changed or substituted unless you can get them imported from the various places and some things I just couldn't find outright

More than Just a Cookbook
PACKED WITH RECIPESSo far, I’ve made several recipes from this book:Shepherd’s Pie, Rib of Beef with Yorkshire Pudding and Roast Potatoes, Sponge Cake with Strawberries and Cream, Scones with Jam and Cream, Hunter’s Chicken, Cucumber Sandwiches and Sausage Rolls. All the recipes I’ve tried have been quite good. I especially liked the Hunter’s Chicken and Sponge Cake with Strawberries and Cream. My husband loved the Sausage Rolls and Rib of Beef. The recipes are easy to follow and I think they all have a photo (always helpful). I did see one reviewer note that they had issues with the American measurement equivalents. I think I did notice this when I was making the scones – I was weighing my ingredients, but I was using a cup measure to put the flour in the bowl that was being weighed, and I seem to remember noticing something was amiss. However, with weight measures, my scones turned out really delicious. As you might guess from my photos, I made a few of these recipes for a DIY Afternoon Tea in my home. The Cake was a big hit – so light, and airy. I actually only made a small 6” cake vs an 8” – but made all the batter and then just filled the pan to where I thought it should be, before discarding the extra batter.I took photos of the Chicken and Rib Roast as well, but can’t find them - sorry. The Shepherd’s Pie was classic, though I do recommend adding the additions that were optional, to give it a little more flavor depth.POINTS OF INTERESTI really love that this book has so much food info and history at the beginning. Sections detailing the culinary landscape of the various parts of the British Isles, and the listing of festivals for each was interesting as well. What I’ve noticed, as someone who is starting to collect a lot of cookbooks from Great Britain and just beyond, is that there is a lot of overlap. I guess this isn’t so different from any cookbook specializing in the country’s cuisine (I have many French cookbooks as well, and I don’t know how many recipes for Coq Au Vin), but it is interesting to compare.Anyway, as I wrote, this cookbook is packed with recipes. I can’t wait to try the Poached Turbot with Saffron Sauce, Scottish Stove Potatoes and Snowdon Pudding.

Great recipes
I am English and live in the US. I crave British food. This book is wonderful. So far I have made: cheese straws, trout with almonds, pan-fried Dover sole, fish pie, stuffed roast chicken with bread sauce, apple pie, and shortbread. The recipes give three different units of measurement - grams/lbs and oz/cups. I sued the lbs/ozs and used a postal scale to accurately measure the ingredients. Everything worked out fine. my only quibble is that the recipes do not give an overall amount of time for how long they will take, nor do they say how many people each recipe will serve. This wasn't issue except the cheese straws - I should have made twice the amount! And the apple pie needed a little bit more pastry to comfortably cover the pie. You can add up the various times in one receipe to get a general idea of the item needed, but it is a bit hit or miss with the servings amount. Since there are only two of us, that's not an issue, but for a bigger group, it might be. Overall I love this book, and do recommend it.

Amazon's SHIPPING is consistently DISASTROUS, DESTRUCTIVE and SLOPPY!
Cookbook content is of HIGHEST QUALITY, AMAZING, HUGE SIZE, COUNTLESS GLOSSY PHOTOS, filled with traditional olde and very beautiful British recipes. This "family heirloom" quality cookbook receives 4-STARS for the finest BRITISH COOKBOOK I have ever acquired, anywhere! Truly Stunning! 500 Page volume, reading the first 50 pages about the origins and evolution of British cooking is something to be enjoyed over and over again!BUT........BUT........BUT, Amazon's shipping-care and their cheap packaging is APPALLING! We paid for a NEW cookbook (in Canadian Dollars this is an expensive purchase), and yet Amazon was too LAZY to bother to protect our expensive purchase during their sloppy shipping ---- cookbook arrived completely DESTROYED, spine torn apart, corners of cover crushed badly, and the cookbook has been rendered completely USELESS for anyone to even handle!! Cannot be fixed, cannot be repaired. GOING BACK! Very Disappointed!

Very authentic and just beautiful!
I received this book about a week ago and just love it. The intro at the beginning is so informative about the origins of British Food. I'm from England (and have lived in Scotland) and these recipes are "spot on". Plus the pictures are just amazing. For the person who wrote the American measurements are way off, I have not found that, neither was my book damaged like some other posters mentioned. This is the BEST cookbook I have ever seen for British cooking. I have just ordered a second one for my sister. I would highly recommend it it!!! Even if you're not prone to manage making Pidgeon Pie or Singing Hinnies, I have spent many a happy afternoon (in quarantine WITH a broken ankle) just reading and looking at the gorgeous pictures have made this book worthwhile for me. By the way I have made the Devilled Chicken and the Toad in the Hole recipes........both were great!!

Perfect!
Beautiful book! Full of authentic British recipes (I'm British btw). All recipes have metric/lbs and oz/cups measurements so something for everyone! Every recipe has a beautiful colour picture and nutritional information (calories, carbs, sugar, fibre etc). Loved the bit of history information at the beginning of the book. Other reviewers complained about peeling on the outside of the book - that's packaging and it's supposed to come off! Underneath is a beautifully finished smooth glossy cover. Highly recommend!

Cover damage
Book great with great recipes - recommend. Outer cover was damaged and ripped in delivery and had to be removed as it was a present.

Ottimo
