For aperature probably all you need
First sensible book on apertures I've read so far ... the "Indian" pics should be redone, I believe, probably with a different set of images but other than that well done....I came back to see if my rating was displayed yet and just for "yucks" decided to read the other reviews ... the one star reviews had two reasons for their review. The first one I'll address is "pamphlet" size of book. The size of the book is indicated by Amazon. You see what you get. The authors style of writing is also a consideration. He wastes no words (at least not many). That's the style I like. Every time I read a book beginning with with "Do you like to take pictures" I cringe. It's a waste of time. Why would I buy the book in the first place? The second "complaint" is that all the info can be found on the internet. That's a false analogy. HOW the info is presented and HOW it is written counts. Now I completely understand why my Sony superzoom is rated 15x and my aperture MUST become smaller as I extend the lens. I now understand why my Lumix superzoom with a constant aperture is a different beast entirely. The author never addresses any particular camera but now I understand my own. THAT'S the beauty of this book...

I FINALLY Get IT
Mr. Judge is an amazing author and teacher! He breaks down technical issues into smaller bits making it easy to understand. He always uses lots of visuals to help you ‘see’ what he’s explaining. I highly recommend the eBook for any beginner photographer.

Thanks
I spent 2 hours in the B&N book store looking for books on digital photography. Finally decided on one by a supposed renown author and bought one of his many books. I got it home and it was crap. Guess I didn't read it enough before I bought it . It is just a look at see what you can do if I told you how book! What a waste of my time and money. So I started looking on Kindle and spent some time doing that and I sampled understanding Digital cameras By AL JUDGE. MADE A GOOD PITCH AND I BOUGHT IT AND HE DIDNT LIE! I thank you Al for being down to earth and so precise in terms I can understand. You made me want to learn more so I bought UNDERSTANDING APITURES AND f/STOPS. I read the first book in 30 minutes and learned that I can take my expensive DSLR and use for real photography and not a point and shoot. Again I Thank You.

Great for review
Every now and then I like to get a quick read to remind me what I can do with my Dslr cameras. This author uses a simple straight to the point way of reminding me what my camera can do.

Just what I needed
A clean, clear explanation of concepts. Not trying to impress anyone with technical fireworks. I had just finished reading another author’s effort at explaining these concepts. At the end of his write-up he says, “Just keep reading this over and over until you get it.” If one doesn’t “get it” by the second read, doesn’t that just turn into frustration?Thank you, Al, for explaining it so this reader “got it” on the first read. Off to make some photos!

APERTURE & f-Stops
If you want a quick read that is packed with the essentials of what you need to know on this topic, then this is the one to buy. Easy to read and understand. The author keeps himself in the background and gives his topic all the attention. I learned more in this little read than from many articles in the topflight "photo" magazines.I will be using more from this author!!

Well written
The author accomplished the goal that he outlined in initial paragraph. Although the focus of this book was understanding aperture and f stop, he also included a brief description of other things that I need to take into account and how settings are interrelated. Good read for anyone that wants to take better pictures.

Buy the author's "Mastering Exposure" instead
This is good and nothing inaccurate; but if you buy this book first and then later buy the author's book "Mastering Exposure"you're gonna be surprising disappointed. What is included in this book is also included in the Mastering Exposure. So whypay for the same info twice - buy the Mastering Exposure and you'll save yourself a buck and in this economy, even a nicklemakes a difference in our economy.

informative with examples
Not into deep deep theory gets the fundamentals out clearly. Personally I need two or three different explanations to see some topics and this is good for this

I love it
Easy to understand short book that covers just what it states on the cover. I love these series of books as it does not confuse you with other elements of photography but just concentrates on the matter in hand. There are other books in the series that cover the other elements of photography.

Good read
Very useful and just what I needed to know as the course I am on rarely discusses in this useful way. I really like having this on my kindle where its easy to get to and takes up little space. I use it a lot out and about
