Advanced Python for Biologists

In Bio / Tech and want to learn coding? Get this book.
Excellent. Well written and organized. A good sequel to the 1st book: "Python for Biologists", same author.I am a chemist, not biologist; however I have always had strong interest in Bio/Life sciences, and am an intermediate level hobby coder. The coding instruction in these books was most helpful for my current project(s).If you are in the bio / bio-tech or related fields, and maybe know just a little coding but want to learn more and improve, and use a language that is very much used in science these days - this book is a worthy investment. The starting chapters (recursion, trees, complex data structures), were a little steep, but the material is presented well and a little diligent study time is all it takes.A chapter on OOP is a nice introduction for those who want; I use OOP only when there is no other way.The book then proceeds to functional python, iterators, comprehensions and exception handling; all important topics, and again, presented well and easy to follow. The Code is available online so no need to type out all the examples in the book. That's nice! All the code and examples deal with real world biology concepts, which adds relevance to the code learning process.Highly recommend this!

Fantasic Python resource
I am a network engineer, so at first glance you might wonder why would a network engineer purchase a Pythonbook that has Python for Biologists as its focus. Well, technique transcends all else, and the author does a *great* jobon the topics covered in this book. The entire book, as I like to say, was "Money!". Chapter 2, 3, 4 and 7 particularly struck a cord, but the entire book is simply well done. Oh, and I downloaded the the code samples from the authors web site, and I'll be damned if every single one I have run (in PyCharm) didn't work perfectly. This book is just straight up excellent. I admit I had trouble with the biological syntax (at first), buttechnique is technique, and I have been able to apply some of the authors techniques\teachings in my own network engineering oriented code.

Exceedingly clear and rife with examples. The author talks about a rather dull subject (let's face it--learning programming for the first or even the second time can be quite tedious) in a clear and informative manner.

The Teaching Style is Unique
I was introduced to the work of Dr. Martin while using his book Python for Biologists Python for Biologists: A complete programming course for beginners in my pursuit of learning to code. My purpose is to be able to interpret genetic data with Python. I was able to move through the first book at an accelerated pace but I had to slow down while progressing through Advanced Python for Biologists. The topics are covered in depth (which is a great thing) and I think I dont have an affinity to learn coding (so I have to try hard). Dr. Martin teaches about Classes, recursion, functional and object oriented python, and most especially about handling errors. One of the sections of the book that I enjoyed most was the one on iterators, generators, and comprehension. I like the idea of condensing code - turning longer 'for' loops into single lines of code. One of the strongest points: all of the code examples in the book are biologically oriented (dealing with sequences and genomic data) so this is very very practical if you are at the crossroad of programming and biology.dr martin reviewi recognized I had to slow things a bit down to understand classes and how callin the selfworks. one of the concepts that I understood best was list comprehension becausedr martine did an excellent job describing it and providing proof of concepts. I mayalso have understand this better because of crossing over it in a few other books thatIm reading on python.

Tolles Buch!
