All Rivers Run to the Sea: Memoirs (Memoirs of Elie Wiesel)

Very slow reading for a Gentile.
I was hoping for a book that was more a historical account of his life. There was way too much philosophical discussion of the Talmud and obscure religious texts. I had a hard time plowing through it. I persevered because he was a part of many years of Jewish history in the US, Europe and Israel. The names of people he knew well were right out of the history books. This I imagine would be a good book for a Jewish person who was a student of religious texts. The events he and his family experienced in the concentration camp were gruesome. The few details he shared made me question whether I can read his other book, "Night". It is one thing to know about the horrors of the Nazi Regime but another to read all the horrific cruelties and murder inflicted on Jews and others in Europe. I am haunted already by what little he shared in this book.

Not a Victim
Elie Weisel’s All Rivers Return to the Sea, the first or his two part memoir, provide the reader with a wider view of Weisel than either his popular image, or many of his books provide.Of course, his experience in the Shoah is paramount. But this book also shows that Weisel led a varied, well-traveled life following the Second World War. He was no one’s victim: despite his experiences, or maybe because of them, as a journalist he placed himself at the center of many epochal moments. He led a full life.It is also interesting that he fails to explore the personal element of the trauma of the Shoah in his life. He write about his experiences in the camps, of course, but the post-war material stands on its own. Again, this is not the story of a victim or victim-hood. It is the story of a life lived fully. Weisel presents a picture of himself as a man active and functioning in the world.

Extraordinary account of an extraordinary life.
Eminently readable and quite moving. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in theology or world war two. My son had the honor of attending a college lecture given by Mr. Wiesel.

For those who loved Elie Weisel.
A must read for lovers of Elie Weisel. The most interesting parts of the book are his childhood and his experiences in Birkenau. Other parts of the book were less interesting and seem like a roll call of famous people whose paths crossed his. Still, it's fascinating to learn how many world leaders knew and respected him.

Good book about someone who has lived a very difficult life.
It makes me feel as if I am in the room talking with Elie Wiesel. Elie Wiesel has such an easy writing style and he handles a subject matter that is so cruel with such ease of style that you can picture yourself there. If you want a good view of what life is like for someone who was hated so much without a cause you should read this book and the other writings by Elie Wiesel.

This author is worth reading
This author has become one of my favorite reads. His style is honest, without the need for blood and guts detail, yet the point is made. He makes you forget you are not there. His righting is through his eye's. He's just gives me enough details to follow what he is feeling; if that's possible.

This is a excellent book. The author writes in a way that will keep you turning pages. He writes about a time in history that no one is proud of, however he does it in a way that does not offend me. I shall be buying more books written buy him. Lewis K.

A Thought Provoker
How can one come from the depths of The Holocaust of the Jews of Europe and offer such enlightenment?? Ask Elie Wiesel! He will tell You how and has positive proof that forgiveness can be a factor in coming to terms with such an awful Catastrophe for the Jewish People?Patrick Dempsey
