This is NOT an expedition tent, very poor quality
We purchased this tent because the floorplan is nearly identical to my husband's early 90's Quest tent which he dearly loved but it's time for it to retire, and they don't make them anymore. We go backpacking and snow camping and wanted a tent that could do both. Most 4 season tents have so few vents that summer camping would be unbearable. So we thought this would be great. We figured with the pricetag, it had to be a decent tent, on par with MSR, NorthFace, REI, etc. right? NO, DO NOT BUY this tent if that's the quality you are seeking. It's a cheap tent, not made for "expeditions" as they claim. The seams are sewn with a basting stitch (very easy to rip), and the only ones sealed are those on the rainfly. The fabric of the tent floor is about the same as that on the sides, and seems like if you happened to pitch it on a twig or rock, it would rip straight through in no time (it's even translucent!). The zippers are cheap, not intended for a quality rain resistant tent, and could prove to be a major source of heat loss in winter camping, since they aren't designed to seal at all. The tent weighs a whopping 11 lbs 12 oz, which is largely due to all the hooks, ropes, plastic window, etc, as well as the cotton mesh used to hold the tent poles. We thought the weight wouldn't be a problem, since his old tent is 9 lbs, but the packed size is about double what his old tent was. When we bought this, we had already spent about 8 hours shopping for tents at local suppliers (REI and other outdoor specialty stores), and just didn't find anything that felt right layout-wise, so we went with this. The differences in construction details were ASTONISHINGLY BAD. An REI, MSR, Northface tent costs about the same and will last you for years to come. We ended up buying a MSR Mo Room 3 after this experience, and spent less $, since it was online with REIoutlet.com.I really wanted to like this tent, since we loved the floorplan and the zip-up windows, but were just astonished to see how poor the construction quality was and how HUGE the packed tent was. Stick with the well-known brands if you are serious about "expedition" or even cold weather camping.

My thoughts
This tent replaced a very good Eureka tent that served me well for many years. This tent is ok just not as good as the last. I feel it is over priced. It is not as easy to set up as my last. I don't like the rear vestibule at all. the front vestibule needs tie backs for the sides if you don't want to use it. It has a mesh sleeve for the poles to go thru that I feel are a weak point on the tent. Time will tell. It is very roomy inside, which I like. It has lots of storage. For the price, it should include the foot print.

Bought in 2012, has seen 18 expeditions, 682 days of use in some of the most extreme enviroments on the planet. lifetime to go
First let me say this is a rock solid tent. Secondly before I give my review allow me to state, my work takes me to far flung areas of the world and working in hostile environments. I have been doing this work for 20 years and often seen people complain that their "equipment" failed through no fault of theirs. Or that that the equipment is too heavy or too flimsy or this or that. Most of the time the "equipment" fails is because certain person (I am a professional attitude thus I don’t make mistakes) has fouled up and has made a grave mistake or has asked their equipment to do something that is was not designed to do. You can not expect a 20oz tent to handle gale force winds, or a cabin style tent to not fall down when overloaded with rain and snow if not properly steaked. or expecting a beach tent to keep you warm in the winter. Do your research carefully ask yourself what is it i want my equipment to do.Ok here is the review. I have purchased this tent new in 2012, it has been on 18 expeditions, used for 682 days (and is still rock solid) and has yet to fail. This tent has been on Mt McKinley, Mt rainier, Arctic camping minus - 60F, has seen a hurricane in the Yucatan of Mexico, has been used in Death Valley, A sand storm in the Sahara, and the extreme heat of the Danakil depression of Ethiopia, and weeks of incessant rain in the Amazon rainforestThe hexagonal 4 pole system is the strongest shape for any tent. I am a 6'2" 220 lb man I have accidently tripped once and fell full on the top and side of the tent, the tent gave a little but supported my full weight, a friend helped me up. I was expecting bent poles at best at worst broken poles, torn fabric, and stitches, nothing no damage at all. This was further shown in the Yucatan of Mexico Chichen Iza where a category 1 hurricane came upon us, with winds up to 78MPH dumping hordes of rain. the tent bowed, groaned, flexed but never gave in.Water proofing, the bathtub (the floor) and the rain fly is waterproofed from the factory, when the hurricane hit in the Yucatan everything was under 2" of water in the campground, the bathtub never once leaked water in, and the rain fly never let water come in no matter how hard it was coming down. In the Amazon it withstood 4 weeks of rain, 12 hours a day and the only water that was in the tent was from out wet cloths when we got caught in the rain.Cold weather, Outstanding, My wife and I do winter camping, in the Upper Pensulia of Michigan, Once we were out near the shore of a small lake, we put up the tent, and placed the fly on, insulated the tent about 1/2 the way up the wall with snow. We had our inflatable bed, our mummy bags, a heavy down comforter and our winter clothing. When we got in the tent we were freezing, within 2 hours we had stripped to our long johns and sleeping on top of our bags. I took a temp reading with my GPS inside the tent it was a balmy +58 F I stuck the GPS outside of the exhaust flap and the temp read minus- 45 F minus -60 F with the wind-chill.Hot climate camping, you cannot get any hotter than Death Valley in the summer, or Danakil in Ethiopia, or any more sandy than Sahara Desert. with the rain fly off and the all the vents open and sleeping on your mattress in you knickers it is like sleeping under the stars cool (cold at times) the cross ventilation is amazing in this tent.I would have given this tent 5 stars BUT there is one small defect in the manufacturing of the tent. however there is good news. The defect is where the metal zippers stop in the corners. The fly screen / no see um mesh has a tendency to abrade after 40 uses or so. it will punch holes in the screen and unravel the no see um mesh if it is not treated immediately.Solution. Where the zippers stop in the corners take clear nail polish and paint a 3/4" square of the no see um mesh this will stop the zippers from abrading the mesh preventing the mesh from tearing or unravelling. There are 2 very small irritations with this tent. 1 the triangular flys should have 2 draw back toggles on this tent it has only 1 per panel. And 2 while the tent stakes are made of aircraft grade aluminium and are much better than pin style pegs, they bend in hard soil/clay/ice they should be made of anodized aluminium.I hope this review helps those who want a great long lasting tent. (I have used this tent more than most people would use it in a lifetime) rest assured it is a great rock solid tent. While there are , lighter weight tents with carbon fibre poles (that can explode in cold weather) for the ultra light freaks that watch every ounce, and there the more expensive "Fashion" brands who claim to be the best, ( read their warranty carefully, Limited lifetime warrantee, same as this one) I cannot justify saving 1 pound of weight for the compatibility of this tent (it is truly a 4 season tent) for the money it is more than any ( weekend camper) will ever need in their lifetime.

The Bomb.... Really?!!!
All the design improvements, I have owned a Eureka K2 XT since 1997,and the upgrades are perfect, by far the best tent on the market within hundreds of of it closest equal

great tent!
Great tent, much better than the kelty it replaced, used in the colorado mountains twice already this year, both weekends saw low temps in the teens and below, one evening had 30 mph+ winds and I hardly noticed it.

Great Tent
This tent has worked out great so far. The vents and air flow options make it a superb tent for all conditions. It easily withstood a storm that included 3 inches of rain and winds exceeding 35 mph.
