This item feels deceivingly cheap, only because it is so light and there is almost nothing to the circuitry which is neat to see. The plastic is of a high quality and density.Plugged it in and it worked just fine right away on Windows 10.This brand is trusted by my workplace, therefor I trust it as well.One major flaw, the blinding blue LED light. Half tempted to desolder the SMT one, and put a small green one in it’s place.Pro Tip: Make sure you have the root certificates installed in your browsers certificate store for the websites or resources you are visiting.

When I started with my new company, I knew that learning to use a MacBook (after not touching an Apple product for 20+ years) was going to be a bit of an uphill struggle. I didn't realize that it would be really difficult to find a smartcard reader that would work with it. My coworker told me that the older version of this reader worked with his MacBook, so I took a chance. Luckily, it works fine. I need to access websites via a Windows VM, so I had to create a rule to capture the USB device, but it works pretty flawlessly.

It's plug-and-play with Activclient. Just plug it in and it works. Plus it's cheap. What more do you want?The cord is a bit long for my needs - maybe 5 feet - but it's not al that cumbersome.I'm teleworking using my home laptop. I borrowed a keyboard with a card reader originally, but this one takes up less desk space. And I was leery of the plug-straight-into-a-USB-port ones as they looked fragile. They don't seem to be suited to laptops that move around a lot.

No issues with this reading smart cards. I wanted something smaller for travel that wasn't a folding one which seem to break frequently. My only issue and why I took a star away is the obnoxious blinding blue light that blinks, persists, during read operations, or card reader usage. My other HID Global just has a faint green light that is only noticeable if you look at it. This you can't help but see.

I had been in the market for a while for a CAC reader and the big reason I decided to go with the particular one was because of the company brand. HID is a worldwide leader in access card systems and so I knew that I would be able to trust the quality and usability of this reader. The overall build quality is pretty good. The main part the would hold your CAC card during use is plastic and the cable is your typical rubber or plastic like other cables. The CAC card once inserted actually sticks out at the corners which is not all in conflict with the regular use of the product. I use this product with the Mac OS operating system and as seen in the images the system has no problem seeing the reader and identifying the actual company. This does have a blue indicator light to signify connectivity and flashes when accessing the CAC card. I am not 100% if drivers are REQUIRED to use this reader (I don't remember if I installed any before my first use) however, if you need any you can find them on the HID website in the "drivers & downloads" section.If you are looking for a quality CAC card reader from a respectable brand look no further!

Unfortunately, this product was not compatible with my computer and was totally useless. However, I gave it to a friend and it worked for her computer and she loves it. I guess it just depends on the computer you are using.
