Joshua and the Flow of Biblical History

There are some very thoughtful reviews contained in the review section of Amazon on this book and there would be no point in repeating them. My perspective was how to use this book as an aid in leading my small group Bible study in the reading of Joshua. My goal was to do more than just review the historical aspects of the Joshua with the group and the Schaeffer book was perfect for expanding the group discussion far beyond those historical aspects. It has given me the sound foundation needed to provide the group with the knowledge needed on how Joshua fits into the bigger picture of redemption as laid out in the Bible. This books makes it relatively easy to explain the meaning of continuity within the Bible and I believe, will give this group some real insight into the bigger picture so that all of those in the group will be more effective advocates in advancing the word of the Lord.

This book helps you find you way historically and chronologically within the Bible, connecting Moses' out of Egypt experience and the settling on the Promised Land that goes on into Judges. In a very clear and fast paced language, precise exposition; not interested in deciphering possibilities for interpretation, but keeping right on the main track of the story. This is the history that God keeps pointing out to as a lesson, as clear as a Florida interstate highway.

The author hammered on things over and over too the point that it took away from the read. Lots of scriptures that said the same thing. I would have preferred a story rather than the ongoing accounts and confirmations.

Schaeffer work in this publication is excellent. It has been one of my major sources in my current class on Joshua. The information has an easy flow with points presented in a clear way. He present the story of Joshua with a historical view. Illustrations are just great. Anyone interested in this study will find this book a reference time and time again. Fine material.

I bought this book AFTER borrowing a well worn copy from the library.And I found it so well constructed with thoughtful comments and observations that I didn't want to give it back....so, I have my own copy! It is well worth having as are reference!

This is a terrific book. Great insight into Joshua’s life.

Dr. Schaeffer's work is comprehensive and covers the territory..but his style is very dull and lacks the inspiration of some of his other works. Not recommending.

I needed it for book club reading. Good book but a little heavy. Good if you are into Biblical history/.
