Timothy Leary: The Harvard Years: Early Writings on LSD and Psilocybin with Richard Alpert, Huston Smith, Ralph Metzner, and others

Vital and compelling
This is a fascinating look into Tim Leary's scientific inquiries into the potential of psychedelics as a psychological healing tool. The writings have all the vigor of a thorough examination but you also feel the twinkle in Leary's eyes as he brings his discoveries to light. Had he and his team been able to continue their work under the culturally acceptable umbrella of academia there's no telling where we would be as a society now. Instructive for both what was and what might have been.

Chapter 2 has an interesting description of Dr. Timothy Leary's Existential Transaction theory. I am still hoping that the missing manuscript of the EXISTENTIAL TRANSACTION will be found. There is interesting commentary by James Penner throughout the book.
