or check out diagnostic imaging views like X-Rays or other scans
Savior of A&P. No doubt about it.I recently undertook a 10-credit A&P intensive in 8 weeks, and without a single doubt, this book was my main resource for all of the anatomy practicals. Our textbook was inadequate - it would have partial and very select views of anything, and didn't cover half of what we had to learn. Among the Atlases that we had on hand, I first found the 5th edition of this book and even though it wasn't photographic, I really appreciated that it was so detailed and offered so many variations on the same area. You can go from skeleton to muscle, nerves, or check out diagnostic imaging views like X-Rays or other scans. I didn't feel that, given the detailed variety here, I was missing anything by not having photos. I checked this newest edition out from my library and was elated to see that just about all the gaps from Dr. Netter's work have been filled by digital rendering that strikes a balance between the accuracy I expect from computers but also the aesthetic I expect from the overall Atlas. I'm sure they're trying hard to find a new way to make an edition given that this is so complete - but I welcome the result.I bought this book after the class were over (I did well) to be a TA for the class throughout the year. With the easy organization of the book, I was able to flag all the areas I knew students would have questions about and was able to absolutely enrich their studying by offering new ways to look at and locate features. This book is currently being sold at a great price. Wouldn't miss it if you're in the market. Only improvement I'd suggest for future editions would be to have the option of a spiral binding with water resistant/alcohol-fast paper so that it could live in the cadaver room. The book still lays flat enough without much manipulation, but being pressed flat puts undue stress on the current binding.

The Go To Anatomy Atlas
Netter's is the go to atlas for anatomy. I am currently using this for my first year of med school and it has all of the graphics I need. These images are also often used by professors on exams. I have a pdf version of the previous edition of the atlas and compared to that, this edition is definitely worth the upgrade. The reason being the tables that I do not see in the older edition. In this edition there is a table at the end of each section of the muscles, their action, blood supply, innervation and muscle group. This is an amazing resource for a condensed version of the information you will need on exams. Friends who have the older version spent hours writing out tables of their own, flipping through endless material looking for that information.I highly recommend this as the first line atlas that you get. You can find supplemental information on the web, or add another atlas to the collection if you feel you need one. This will be the best one to start with though.

BEST. ATLAS. EVERRRR
This atlas is soo awesome. Very detailed dissection of different parts and organs. CT and Xray photos. Summary tables at the end of each section. Extremely colorful pictures. Perfect for beginners. Not for advanced health professionals because if you dissect a real human body, it all looks the same. With blood everywhere, You can’t differentiate between an artery or a tendon or a nerve. With all that, this atlas gives an excellent 3D picture of how all the organs, muscles, bones...etc are placed and connected together. A must buy

The only book you need to pass your anatomy class.
Great book with tons of pictures and tons of clear labeling from different layers in the body and different angles. Highly recommend you buy this and not rent if your going into a health profession because you’ll likely want to keep it moving forward in your degree. I took an accelerated summer session anatomy class and this was the only book I needed. It’s all pictures with labels with no lengthy paragraphs to get in the way of studying for your practical test portion. This book saved my ass when I was trying to learn all the different names of the skull anatomy. Particularly fossas and foramen that just seemed so unclear on some of the models we were given to study.

Pretty drawings but a little overrated
The drawings are clear, and I'm glad that I studied it because this is the resource that I would want to use to show patients anatomical features in my practice. Additionally, the muscle tables were helpful. However, for actually learning the material, I found Grants atlas of anatomy to be much more helpful because it includes verbal descriptions, and I learn best if I have descriptions to accompany graphics. Netters has only pictures and no descriptions.

A great investment.
I am a billing and coding student/CPC candidate and in the course of my study I noticed that other textbooks used Dr. Netter's illustrations. I decided to purchase the complete volume and I am pleased with my choice. My age aside, there is a lot to be said for having high quality reference books on your desk versus using the internet. I have the paperback version which is a trace larger than a 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper; and it is nearly 1.25 inches thick. The pages lay open nicely and the paper is sturdy with a finish between satin and semi-gloss depending on your perspective. The book includes many radiographs, transverse/cross section illustrations, layered dissection illustrations, organ dissections (some microscopic) etc. A few subjects are presented in schematic form in addition to the traditional scale form (primarily nerves). As near as I can tell, it is complete in all respects. There are NO photographs except for the x-ray/radiograph images. For anyone not familiar with Dr. Netter's work, all the illustrations are hand drawn, so the scale may not always be precise for tiny details. This book is much better than videos or photographs of cadaver dissections. As is the case with many medical books, the genital details are explicit, so plan accordingly for storage/kids/easily offended adults etc.

Frank M Netter MD: Painter/Doctor
Frank M Netter MD initially graduating with an art degree before comnpleting his medical degree. In a nutshell, that is why this atlas is exceptional. You have the benefit of someone who is proficient in painting (yes, all of those were painted) combined with someone who has also completed a medical degree so it's fair to assume he knows his anatomy. And boy, oh boy, does he know his anatomy. This atlas misses virtually no structure in labelling or in the painting and often goes beyond most anatomy textbooks in naming structures. For my study of anatomy I used this in conjecture with Gray's Anatomy and Moore's Clinically Oriented Anatomy - both being fantastic textbooks. This is probably the best atlas available and an essential for anyone who is studying to become any health care professional. The only downside is the Student Consult. It is clear (like with most medical textbooks that offer it) that it was just an afterthought. However, on a positive note, the Netter 3D interactive Map is pretty useful. You get 30 day free trial after which you have to pay. Just use the trial and consider if it is something that you would want to invest in. It was worth it for me, as I am a visual learner and is particularly useful for complicated structures such as the bones of the skull.

Atlas of Human Anatomy - Frank H Netter MD
As a retired engineer with a fascination for anatomy, I can safely recommend this book to anyone. I have been studying this volume together with Gray's, and although they both have their benifits, when one considers that the illustrations in this volume are paintings by Netter, one is really in awe of such work. In particular, for an enthusiastic amateur, these illustrations miss vitually nothing. I found that the illustrations showing muscle attachments and their insertions, a massive help in understanding the overall joint assemblies and their function. This volume is strictly an atlas, which enables one to find intimate details very quickly, without having to wade through any text. All in all, a very impressive work.
