From someone who knows nothing about Verge pocket watches as far as I know it's good - but the more one gets into the subject the more detail and pictures on everything would be appreciated, especialy maintenance and perhaps repair.

Good book for new enthusiasts.Bought the English Fusee Lever Watch by the same author after I read this book.There are classic antique watch books out there with all the detail you want but I have found the modern clear photos etc very helpful for a novice like me!

Intestine read, handy repair tips.

Don't know much about fusee verge watches before this book. Definitely learnt something about such watches. I bought a fusee watch and this book helps to explain what's what and how it works.

The author knows what he is talking about and very capable of getting this across to the reader

This book, and all its companion volumes by the same author are simply awful. Cut-and-paste repetition of the same (often inaccurate and frankly damaging to watches) information from chapter to chapter makes me wonder exactly what sort of editor and publisher would have the temerity or ignorance to support this travesty of horology. The author's books have been slated in the academic and practical horological print press. Do not believe online five-star reviews by amateurs with little experience who think that this is a wonderful book. A few glossy pages and some fresh photographs go a long way to hide the book's underlying deficiencies: the author promulgates terrible horological practise, and there is little else to be said. Please, search for your horological education elsewhere.

Good book. It seems that books that talk about the verge escapement are few and far between.
