D-LinkDWA-140 Wireless N USB Adapter

Very easy to setup using the D-Link install CD indluded. Only took about 5 mins to be up and running secure at top speeds.. I am receiving 130Mbs using this adapter, much faster than the 54Mbs using my old adapters. It connects each time I use it with Windows XP, no problems experienced. I have it connected to a D-Link DIR-635 wireless N router. I reckon I would get closer to 300Mbs as advertised, but i have my router set up for mixed mode broadcasting as I have 54g adpapters attached to the router also, hence it broadcasts on N, G & B frequencies mixed... If the router was set to N mode only I think I would achieve closer to the 300Mbs - but other family members are still using the old G mode 54g adapters so I have to leave the router on mixed mode :(All in all, I am very pleased with this bit of kit and it works great with the D-Link DIR-635 wireless N router. A bit of advice: if you already have a router, try to buy the same brand adapters for it - they will usually pair much easier and work better.2012 - UPDATE:The router broke down. It was out of the statutory 12 month warranty period - I bought the router from PC World and they refused to repair or replace the item - even though it came with a life time D-Link warranty. No problems though - I contacted D-Link through their website, emailed them the details and copy of my PC World invoice. They then emailed me a returns number and I sent the router back.A few days later I received a brand new router from D-Link !! Amazing :) I've also sent one or two wireless dongles back and received new ones as well - dongles initially bought from Amazon - they also refused to help after 12 months had elapsed :(I never have my router switched off, it broadcasts 24/7 and has a lot connected to it. D-Link Customer Service is great - shame about PC World & Amazon though. I bought the router from PC World and the dongle from Amazon (reviewed above first). my contract of sale was with them, but they refused to help when it broke down!I still recommend this router :)

The product's (D-Link DWA 140 Rangebooster N USB adapter) performance is not that great. I tried using it in my loft room, but the signal was very low. So I am now using it in a room on the first floor, where the signal still oscillates between low and good. I have a Cisco Wireless-N adapter,which performs very well anywhere in the house.

This is the one to buy, I've bought 3 now. One in my laptop three flights up from my D Link router the others scattered about the house. Install the software first and plug in the adapter when instructed and thats it. Easy as that. It comes with an USB extension and base if you want to use it.Fantastic product, I can access the net from any room including my work room in my basement and thats through pretty thick walls and flooring.5 stars no problem. I'm happy to reccomend this adapter to you.

Well I am pretty disappointed with this purchase.You see, I already have a D-Link router with one of these DWA-140 dongles, it works perfect. Well I have a few PC's, so I bought this thinking it would be straight plug and play, after all all my PC's work with my current DWA-140 dongle.So thinking it would be a straight swap, but no, not recognised, no windows automatic driver update or download, even when connected by other means to the internet and trying to configure this device manualy it does not update any drivers. So I guess CD time, stick it in and install the software and drivers, do everything by the book, add my network details exactly. No connection. Try again, troubleshoot, no connection, try the old router button trick, it finds the exact network and details, but keeps disconnecting.So, I refit my old dongle. No connection, after 30 minutes I give up, uninstall the drivers and software, and have to go through it all again to reset my old device, drivers, and network connection.I find it pretty appaling that buying a new version of my DWA-140 for a second PC fails to allow me quick and simple internet access and network connection. Maybe I am missing something?I do not need the bloated software that comes with the disc, as my current dongle and set up works fine, what I wanted was the same dongle with the same simplicity. Hoping for the same product to allow me to use any one of my DWA-140 dongles to connect any of my PC's to the internet seems beyond me or by the look of it, D-Links manufacturing and sofware processes.Finally have it in use, but only due to using the device configuration of Windows to extract the relevant drivers from the supplied CD, and then again, re-doing my network and wireless connection. I cannot hotswap with my other DWA-140, unless I want to reconfigure my network, wireless, and dongle yet again. And I am not using the supplied software that comes with this, due to it's frustrating inability to keep a connection after various and numerous reconfiguring of my details, manual and automatic.

Just received this product today, the installation was smooth for me. I may not be receiving strong signal, but it is acceptable.My only real concern is how long this product may last me in the long run as i have been let down by many other brands.

Ho letto la recensione di un cliente -scitta nel 2013- (utente niki, se non erro) che lamentava la non perfetta compatibilità usando questa chiavetta WiFi con Linux. Vorrei tranquillizzare gli utenti di Linux e FreeBSD: a me funziona benissimo. L'ho acquistata nel 2016 in negozio (evidentemente in tre anni devono aver trovato un driver giusto) e l'ho riacquistata da Amazon nel 2017 per il mio PC con FreeBSD. La chiavetta va benissimo, sente anche gli Hot spot con segnale debole: per esempio ho un tablet che uso come router WiFi in casa -e un tablet non ha certo la potenza di un vero Hot spot con tanto di antenna-, ebbene, anche se si trova nella stanza a fianco mi ci connetto benissimo (infatti ora sto usando proprio quella connessione). Che dire? Se usate Linux & affini, con questa chiavetta avete un prodotto onesto, con una buona sensibilità, una eccellente compatibilità (funziona perfino con FreeBSD), pronto all'uso senza bisogno di installare nessun driver. Al momento sto scrivendo dal mio laptop con Lubunti 16.10 .In pratica, un acquisto consigliato.

I "wore out " my former USB network adapter so I needed another one. I am trying finish college so I don't have time to mess with getting a network adapter working. I had bought another adapter (Bolse) which claimed to work with Linux but didn't. This one uses the rt2800usb kernel module and works great. If your using Debian 7 or SuSE12.2 get this adapter

Su instalación es inmediata y permite eliminar el cable de conexión Ethernet entre el portátil y/o el PC y el router. La velocidad de navegación en internet es excelente y te olvidas rápidamente de que ya no tienes cables por el suelo, cuando, como en mi caso, el router está lejos del portátil o del PC. Producto altamente recomendable.

Drei dieser Sticks verwende ich standardmäßig am PC unter XP und Win7 mit Verbindung ebenfalls zu einem D-Link-Router. Alle drei arbeiten hervorragend, die Verbindung ist stabil und schnell (durch Wände und über Etagen hinweg). Die beigefügte Software ist zwar nicht notwendig, tut aber brav ihren Dienst. Wer also eine andere Oberfläche als die Windows-Eigene haben möchte, bitte sehr.Die Installation verlief stets wie von selbst, keine 2 Minuten und die Verbindung stand. Über den beigefügten Ständer kann ich nichts sagen, da ich ihn nicht nutze (die Sticks haben auch unter dem Tisch direkt am PC guten Empfang). Aber bei wem dieser Platz nicht optimal ist, freut sich vermutlich über die Möglichkeit, den Stick auch bequem woanders aufstellen zu können, es ist im Prinzip ja nichts anders, als eine USB-Verlängerung.Fazit: Ich kann nichts Negatives finden. Empfehlung!
