Beautiful Book
A wonderful story written to be read to and by young people and for certain adults like me. It is a story of a young Indian boy and his experiences growing up. Reinforced by current events looking into native Indian schools both here and in Canada.

What a unique way to chronicle of the plight of our Native Americans.
This is not just a book, it is a piece of art. I have bought this book and given it away so many times and fortunately, I have been able to re-order when needed. The artwork is simple but beautiful and the cursive handwriting that documents Thomas Blue Eagle's story is perfection. I am thinking of giving this book to my 7 year old grandson, so is interested in drawing and color. And, my granddaughter, who wants to learn cursive even though it is not taught in school anymore. And, of course, the story itself is such a bittersweet, tragic reminder of what we did to our first indigenous people. This is a must read for anyone and you must have the book itself to appreciate the beauty of it. E-readers just wouldn't do it justice.

Absolutely recommend
This was a good read. The illustrations are beautiful and the story demonstrates an important piece of our country's history in a meaningful and approachable way. It's a great book for introducing youth to native assimilation & it's a great book for everyone else as well

Excellent and stunning account.
This is a lovely historical fiction account of an indian boy's experience in the community and in the Indian schools of the day. The text merges stunning ledger images and historical markers of assimilation and accommodation among Native Americans.

Beautiful Native American Art and Story
This book is beautifully rendered in the style of Plains Indian Ledger drawing. The story contains some historic events from the viewpoint of the author. There is an underlying story that is fascinating. If you have an interest in Native American art and history, you must buy this book. Ledger drawing is still a vibrant, practiced art form in the 21st century.

Beautiful art and very famous part of Native American arts ...
Beautiful art and very famous part of Native American arts since the 1800s when Native artists started touse the ledger papers to create images of their tribes and their tribal histories. If the Ledger art had notstarted it would have been years before Native artists became famous for painting and drawing...Beyond just being art paintings some of these are historical documents of tribal histories.
