Wonder Movie Tie-In Edition

Everyone should read this book!
This is an amazing novel which will resonate with all children starting, or in their first year, at secondary school as it deals with feeling the-odd-one-out, changing group dynamics and seeing issues from more than one point of view. Using basic vocabulary, it is easy to read, even though there are several Americanisms which won't be a problem for adolescents! The additional chapters in this publication about the making of the film were also interesting.

An amazingly inspirational book
Hi,I am a year 6 teacher and since our return to school in September, we have been reading the book Wonder by R J Palacio. We chose this book as all years groups had to study a book based on adversity, and how someone overcomes this. During the current time - it is November 2020 and the world is gripped by a global pandemic - this book gave us a piece of warmth and light during a cold and dark time. However, rather than an old fuddy duddy teacher giving you this review, I have chosen three children who have reviewed this book so much more eloquently than I could ever do."Auggie is the main character of the book. He's a boy who has a deformed face, who was homeschooled, but is now attending a prep school. When he joined the prep school, some of the children would make fun of him. However, he soon made friends with other children and they helped him through the hard times.I like this book because it taught me that it doesn't matter what you look like. Everyone should be treated the same." (RL, Y6)"Auggie Pullman, who is the main character, has a facial deformity. He overcomes the fear of not being a normal looking person and this thrilled me because he starts to realise that he doesn't have to hide anymore. Auggie gets bullied at school but two friends help him by sticking up for him.Wonder was an emotional rollercoaster of a book. Every single word touched my heart. Sometimes Auggie would make jokes about his face as a defence mechanism. It sure was a great book to read." (DB, Y6)"Wonder is a really good book. Honestly, it's one of the best books I have ever read. It is funny, emotional and has really interesting characters such as the main character August. The story is very intriguing in man ways, like how the book changes from August's perspective to some of his friends including his loving and caring sister, Via.This book is very close to my heart for I have a younger brother with disabilities. It has shown me so much more what is going on in his life and I think it can teach people a lot about what people like him go through. I love this book to bits and I really recommend this book to anyone over nine years of age." (DD, Y6)

A sparkling story of love and hope - highly recommended
When this book came into my local library I was intrigued by the image of the kid in an astronaut's helmet on the cover and also by the fact that this book had been made into a movie so I wanted to find out what the fuss was about. And wow. I loved this book and I think that almost no amount of fuss would be too much. It's that good. It's a very mature book - bad things happen but there's more than one side to most of the stories and with the multiple viewpoints the reader gets to see incidents from many sides. I often find the multiple viewpoint thing distancing but in this book it just got me further inside the heads of the people who matter in this story. And I loved the portrayal of the teachers in this story. You can really see the difference that outstanding teachers can make in the lives of their students. And of course, most of all I loved Auggie. What a character! I hope we get to meet him again in a future novel.Highly recommended.

Raspy voiced Auggie ruined this for us!
This is an absolutely brilliant story so it was quite a disappointment that the actor’s voice used for Auggie was so ill matched. A raspy, Marge Simpson sounding voice made this audio recording intolerable to listen to as a family. I was hoping to gift this to my child’s school but won’t be able to due to the quality.

OMG!!!! Such a good book! Everyone must read this book!
This is such a amazing book! I admit that I was wiping away tears. The movie tie in edition is pretty good. The book is about a boy names August "Auggie" Pullman, who was born with Teachers Collins syndrome or a variation of it, and means that his face does not look regular. After being homeschool until 5th grade his parents decide to send him to middle school. Auggie has to deal with friends, bullies, being ostracized by the school. We learn about his life from the perspective of his sister, her boyfriend, her girlfriend, two of his friends and him himself. I won't spoil the book, so you'll have to read it yourself:)But its a amazing book, and I highly recommend reading 'Wonder' and all of the other books connected like 'Auggie and me', 'Mr browns precepts', 'White bird' and a few other books linked. Please read!
